I agree. This thread isn’t about men though. It’s about the fact that we wouldn’t accept that behavior from men, so why do we accept it from women while also listening to how they aren’t being treated as equals.

Being equals doesn’t mean that you are the same.

Traditionally, men and women have different roles in society (generally speaking) that are equally important. If a woman decides that she wants to be a home maker and her husband values that role more than a role working outside of the house, then they’re equals. Different roles. Equal importance.

Sweeping the kitchen =/= working in coal mines to make sure the electric bill can be paid on time.

You’re grossly oversimplifying the role of a home maker.

My wife has been a SAHM for the past 7 years. She does a heck of a lot more than sweep the floors. She takes care of all of the logistics and planning around getting our four kids where they need to go, she schedules all of our appointments, she pays all of the bills and handles all of the administrative tasks. That alone makes it worth it to me without even counting child care/cooking/Cleaning.

She’s starting a full time master program this summer and going back to work afterwards, but honestly, I would have no problem with her continuing as a homemaker. I do OK and I value her role as a homemaker. That’s what makes us equals.

A.) Equal opportunity, not equal outcome.

unless a man is at home taking care of small children, I think it’s unacceptable to not be working.

B.) Who cares what you think. What works in some relationships does not work in others. Do what is the best option in each individual situation.

Being bitter and lonely doesn't suit you, baw. It's making you a mean bastard.

Funny, but mean.

Still need to find something to make yourselves feel useful. It’s fun to imagine living life like The Dude, staying in pajamas & drinking all day, but the reality sucks.

This. You don’t have to be born rich to not work. We started buying rental properties young. The goal is to have enough income generation to not have to work. We discussed it and wife will quit first. Per the OP, when we both stop working this would make us useless which is a ridiculous statement.

So there are people who stay home because the income is not needed and are not on welfare?

They are on welfare, it just isn't provided by the government

I agree that one doesn’t need to work a paid gig to have purpose, but I do believe that people should be doing something aside from committing themselves 100% to leisure related activities.

There seem to be a lot of guys here who think the “dream” is to marry a rich chick so they can lay by the pool and drink all day. Most of them would be on antidepressants in less than a year.
