The economic hub of the world wants to pass a law which would pay food delivery drivers $33/hr by 2025

In other words, you might be able to afford a 600 Sq foot, rat infested, dilapidated apartment with outdated infrastructure. Cheers!

You can make that easy without a minimum wage if you have a brain and some work ethic with a lot of the gig apps.

Of course not. They'll still expect you to tip ~20%, all the while chanting "no tip = no trip"

The reason for this is door dash pays abysmal without a tip. It might be $2 for them.

It is just terrible how they force people to deliver food for such low pay.

If they want to make $40+hr (and going higher with the teamsters negotiating the new contract this year), go to work at UPS. Free health insurance too. Just a physical job tho.

Exactly. You can tell who knows what they're talking about versus who isn't very quickly in this thread.

For all of those who don't know: The majority of your Uber fare is not going to the driver, it's going to Uber. If you pay 12 bucks for an Uber, your driver is likely only getting between 5ish dollars (maybe not in NYC, but in my market).

And you have to consider that Uber doesn't pay for drivers' car maintenance, repairs, gas, etc. So how much is your driver really getting, in net profits, from driving unpaid to you for 2 miles through traffic and then ferrying you to your destination through traffic for a couple more miles?

The answer? Very little.

And forcing their wages to be $33/hr translates into higher fees and that will translate into less of the service being used. Which then leads to less work and those people who may have been better off on the pittance plus tips are now worse off.

I would be really surprised if Uber eats doesn’t change the whole dynamic after that.

It will take a little while but after that change fails, Uber eats will have to make the change due to money loss

I'm not saying that's the solution either. I don't know what the solution. But, the idea that drivers are just racking up the cash right now is patently false. That's all I'm saying.

The last Door Dash I ordered or ever will order sent it's tiny little child to my 4th floor hotel room with my order. Yeah, let's incentivize more of these losers to come into our plane of existence.

Spoke to a guy that sets up event tents. Found out he pays his guys $35/hr… I was blown away.

The market should decide this, but if this passes, they just shut these businesses down because people will just go pick it up themselves at the rate this would require to be sustainable. Idiots.
