That day should be mourned not celebrated. When the first Landrieu took office, New Orleans was the 19th biggest city in America. We were bigger than cities like Nashville, Atlanta, Charlotte and Miami. We were an economic powerhouse and our oil, gas and port business led the nation. 50 years of Landrieus later, New Orleans is not even the largest city in the state. Companies that started here like Ruth's Chris are moving their headquarters to other cities. As these other cities built themselves into international business hubs, New Orleans shrunk to a government dependent charity case with the highest regressive costs in the nation for its citizens. It is a city economically hostile to the working class. The Median household income of a New Orleans resident is $36,964 a year. The US average is $53,482 a year. Our murder rate is perpertually at the top of the US rankings while are schools are perpetually ranked at the bottom. ACT scores for the students who take it in Orleans Parish are three points lower on average than the cities mentioned above. Our roads are perpetually the worst in the nation. Our infrastructure has been ignored for that same 50 years. Celebrate the Landrieu Dynasty? Hell no, I damn it.
