Europe was the first to push for this, starting with commercial vehicles, and the US soon followed. Anything with automated driving is a hair's breath away from this, you know, for "safety," no matter the brand. Keep in mind that what you think is a "US brand" is often part of a conglomerate of brands that includes Asian and European automakers.

this is dumb.

Nah, BYD is kicking arse.

Warren Buffet is an investor. They recently overtook Tesla (who has plants and sells in China) as the number one EV mfg in the world.

I want Chinese to build shite that challenges us in design and cost like the Japanese did in the 80s, also known as real competition. We don’t have anymore in two many areas

Anyone who understands capitalism and markets would push for more competition, not less.

Our companies no longer innovate due to protectionism.

I wish I could buy a BYD as well. Spent several months lately in Asia and they are all over the place now, absolutely booming brand. Got to ride in one several times as well, great cars!

They're not going to with the tariffs and state laws preventing direct to consumer vehicle sales.

Right. But BYD is in Mexico and Australia.

American car mfgs need more competition.

Australia Chinese vehicle tariff = 0%
Mexico Chinese vehicle tariff = 20%
US Chinese vehicle tariff = 100%

Agreed but it most likely won't come from BYD unless things change a lot.

Which sucks because BYD appears to be legit.

Not sure about other Chinese EV companies though.

Their hardware is fine. I'm still skeptical on the battery management system. I have yet to see any Chinese energy storage solution really understand how to run the BMS to prevent premature degradation. Thats the secret sauce thats still not universally understood. Even the US OEMs not named Tesla still have an infantile understanding of how to build the BMS properly.

The ramp up in WWII was only possible because America had a vast array of on-going industries.

At the start of the WWII America had 4 fleet carriers in the Pacific. By the end of the war there were dozens of various types.

I would wrap it in aluminum foil. That should disable that feature.
