Hard Rock Hotel Update: Changes to demolition plans and businesses reopening

The demolition plans for the Hard Rock construction collapse site could be changing.

The Hard Rock Hotel site was initially slated for implosion mid-January. However, it may have different plans. The owners of the hotel have a new proposal on how to bring the building down, according to a statement from New Orleans Fire Chief Tim McConnell.

"The owners put out a press release, saying that they have a plan and it does not involve an implosion. We've been aware that they were looking at several different things, and that some of the footprints that would be affected was rather large with the implosion plan,” McConnell said.

The hard rock owners are responsible for coming up with a plan of demolition, but needs the city's approval before proceeding, according to McConnell.

Sweet. I've been waiting for one of these hotel chains to go with the post apocalyptic theme.

What would have been the parking floors could be salvageable. Could just start building up from there.

How does this...

contradict the idea of a demolition?

If they're still "bringing the building down" they're still demolishing it right? Just not using an implosion?

More like Kailas thinks by putting this out he can shed some liability from the demo (and associated fallout) if the City pushes ahead

It is such a nice addition to the city's skyline when viewed from I10. Kind of in keeping with the vacant column at Lee Circle and the atrocity where the Beauregard statue used to be.

Exactly. OP is making it sound like the mayor or the city is going back on their words. I'm as disgusted by the City of NOLA as anyone else, but reading the article it's quite clear that nothing is changing about the decision to demolish except how they're going to go about doing it

no I'm not..I simply posted word for word what was said by the city and now whats being reported.

Cantrell was so much in fact that the building would be demo'd and now there seems to be some sort of negotiations going on

Nothing has changed. Demolition is next. The process of how the building is demo’d is what is being discussed.

I’m not sure why you act like this is some negative in Latoya. There’s plenty of things to shite on her for. If anything they should be applauded that they aren’t just going full steam ahead with a plan they aren’t sure about. Implosion is extremely complicated in downtown of any major city on earth.

They've already hired a company to do the demo...why are the developers and owners all of a sudden now getting involved?
