"Girls" was supposed to be the voice of my generation as far as shows go (Which it wasn't). It's merely Dunham's play toy and allows her to voice whatever struggles she's had in her twenties and so on. Each female character on that show is supposed to represent different aspects of Dunham's personality. Which I believe at one point worked (Up until S3). But now they are just trying to wrap up the story and end the series.
The TV series Master of None or Insecure is probably more relatable for millennials than "Girls" attempted to be.

I just thought about it: wouldn't someone like Lena Dunham make a great Bond villain? A fat, unfrickable bitch who wishes to remove all white, cismale culture and then plans some sort of genocidal notion to get rid of them from all walks of life. She's pretty much the anti-James Bond, which would make it great.
