quote:

A sculpture of a giant scarlet heart wearing a golden crown was craned to the top of the 60-foot column in the center of Harmony Circle in New Orleans on Sunday morning, and was bolted into the place where a statue of Robert E. Lee once stood.

It's the first time the top of the column has been occupied since the Confederate icon was removed in 2017.

The new sculpture, by Mexican artist Raúl de Nieves, is meant to signal the importance of the New Orleans landmark in the celebration of Carnival. For generations, Harmony Circle has been a prime spot for watching parades.

Actually a lot cooler than what I expected. I can live with seeing that every day.

Why are they calling Lee Circle Harmony Circle? Have the Oak Ridge Baws taken up residence there?

You know, this shite used to burn my arse years ago, but given the current demographics of the city and what it’s become, they can have it.

Anyone know way happened to Lee, Jefferson Davis, and Beauregard?

Last I heard, they were still in the East in a scrap yard in a giant crate.

Those pieces need to be displayed somewhere. It’s a damn shame.

Should have been a fleur de lis. But at least it's better than an afro pick.

I wonder how much money was 'spent' on this.

That looks like something you’d see in a 13 year old girls room.

I hope that crown ends up riding around the night ward, on top of a '79 Monte Carlo.

You think the city and/or the Democrat Party will let that happen?
