LED Light Bulbs

Are they worth the extra cost? They advertise much less wattage used. What type(regular filament, incandescent, LED), wattage, brand, color(soft white, soft yellow, etc.) do you use at home?

I'm slowly working toward LED. They are pretty expensive, but if you only buy as you need replacements, it's easily affordable.

they were extremely expensive at the beginning but have drastically decreased in price. If you can afford 20$ a bulb it's worth replacing every single one you have. I get mine from Home Depot
ETA- 100% necessary for bulbs that are a pain in the arse to change (flood lights that require a ladder to change etc.). They last 50 times longer than a typical incandescent, 20-25 times longer than a typical halogen, and 8-10 times longer than a typical CFL. Used 12 hours a day, a 50,000 bulb will last more than 11 years. Used 8 hours a day, it will last 17 years.

I am gradually replacing my regular bulbs with LEDs as they burn out. Same quality light. Haven't had them long enough to see if they save any money. Oh, and frick a fluorescent bulb.

I haven't used replacement bulbs yet, but I have used LED fixtures recently. I replaced all of the fluorescent shop lights in my garage and workshop with Feit LEDs from Costco ($29 each). I just found the lighting much better for detailed work. They were 38 watt. 3700 lumens.

I replaced all of my recessed lighting with these (that's a really good deal btw). It was easy to do, they look great, and will payoff in about 2 years, and that's not including the fact that I won't have to replace bulbs every 2 years, or the fact that they put out virtually no heat compared to my old bulbs. They use about 10% the electricity of my old ones.

I actually bought 6 LED light fixtures from Home Depot. They cost $20-25 a piece but they are supposed to last for 30-40 years. And they are a shitload brighter than the bulbs I had in there. So much better than the 5 year fl bulbs. I will eventually replace all of them they are so great.

You want have to buy replacement bulbs for years. Should be a savings right there just in bulb cost for the life of the LED bulb. Then add in the energy saving...winning. Like others have said you have upfront cost but its a win.

a solar light uses less electricity but does that make it a good lightbulb?
no.
you want to look for 90+ CRI unless you're cool with the weird white LED light most of the cheap LEDs put out.

Don't worry about CAD, his way is generally the only way...
I have an alert set on slickdeals and usually get a bunch when they go on sale. The TCP LEDs have been cheap recently. I got 4 40-watt and 2 60-watt 5000K (Day Light) bulbs and they are great. I also have two other brands around the house, and they work well also. I think the light is much better from any of the LCDs I have compared to the CFL and incandescent bulbs I have.
ETA: $4 per bulb right now. I got them for a little cheaper a couple weeks ago.

I use at home. the early ones burned out way faster than advertised.
but the current batch are decent .... check out amazon for pricing and reviews
also carry a cree [ led ] tactical light ,very compact , and adjustable power to see whenever I need it. and comes in very handy, everyday.
