This is why I take my own vehicle
We do this occasionally, especially when there is a game coming on, but my wife really doesn't like making the drive by herself
Thankfully they live by some stocked lakes so when the weather is good, I eat, make pleasant convo for about 30 mins and take my arse fishing. Drawback to this plan tho is that I'll fish till it's dark/I'm tired....once I come in VERY ready to head home, I can bank on it being at least an hour of bullshite before we actually do.

they pay $500+ to feed your family crawfish?
$500?
Prices went up because Suez Canal, pollen in air, more COVID, now have to double mask each crawfish...

We host and buy the ingredients. But that's for like burgers, turkey, or ham
I'd absolutely ask for guests to chip in some $ for crawfish

Yea, frick nice family.
Was waiting for this comment There is a difference man. Nice is hey...do you want to take ____ with you? Getting a yes/no and moving on.
Dragging it out is
Do you want any of this.
No thanks we need ot get going, we prob wont eat it.
Well let me just pack you up some.
Really that's fine...we need ot head..thanks so much.
Ok well Im just gonna give you a little bit.
I have watched this woman take a knife out of a pie, wash that knife in the sink, then use it to cut the same damn pie that we asked her not to pack up. She'll also lose track of what she's doing 9 times which never happens any other time. Need help finding a wal mart bag to put it all in etc...all while starting new conversations. It's frickin infuriating...you can tell it's like a game to her to keep us there as long as possible after we say we're leaving.

I'm genuinely surprised by the amount of people in this thread that wouldn't offer to pitch in for a family crawfish boil, or would be upset that a family member asked you to help pay for your share.

Are we married into the same family?

You invite a bunch of people over for a crawfish boil, you buy the crawfish. Someone offer's, that's bonus.
Exactly...if you invite me over I'll chip in on my terms or I'll buy the beer....but dont invite be over and ask me to chip in before hand.
Also, I'm usually the one that has to order, pick up, deliver and boil them.

For most holidays I prefer to host for many of the reasons in this thread. More comfortable, I don't have to travel, etc. The only exception is Christmas because I don't want to have to deal with all that wrapping paper and boxes filling up my trash can.

ETA: It just dawned on me. Maybe I'll come in and start packing food up while everyone else is talking. Then when it's time to go BOOM everything is packed up and in hand. Nothing to gather.... Nothing to keep us from waltzing out. I kinda legit wanna try this....just to see what she does

I prefer to host because people can space out. The lingerers do not bother me because 90% of the time it's the only ones in the family I get along with. And the wife and I agreed that outside of siblings & parents, we would both have to agree to want that family member over before extending an invite.
I used to prefer doing it at the parents house; but once they downsized the house, but not the stuff, it always feels cluttered and dirty. Plus, they always invite the oddballs in the family over

Hosting something like that then asking family to chip in money is pretty trashy

Can y'all pay your share for the crawfish?".
So do you pay by the lbs you eat? Agree with you though if they wanted folks to contribute should've said so in the beginning.

This will definitely require an update

Follow-up question: If it's at their house, but you buy and do all the cooking, who gets the thanks and praise from all the guests?

I prefer to host, and if I host I am prepared to cover the cost. It is a bonus if someone offers to pitch in. On the flip side, every time I accept an invitation to go to someone else's house, the first thing I ask is what we can bring. I would much rather pay more than my share than feel the way you feel right now.

If I could pull it off it would legit be one of the proudest accomplishments of my adult life It won't work tho. Food is always on the kitchen island which thanks to a small open floor plan, is 3 feet from the living room. There is no way to execute this without her seeing. As soon as she does I'll hear, "Now I can get that later...you come sit down." At that point I'll be pulled in to passively watching whatever they have on TV...talking every few minutes in between, until I say it's time we go.... THEN is when the worlds slowest show will begin and once that's done she'll remember every story/update she forgot to mention the entire day.
No baws...my only move here is to fish until it's time to go through this shite, then enjoy this hour long production.

Plus...Would you rather stay home and do your own thing at your own house on a lazy Easter Sunday or travel out of town to a family members house and be able to leave when you want?
We go to my mom's for Easter. If it's family there is no problem with them being blunt and your brother or sister saying "Chip in, MFer!". But if it's just friends it's trashy.
Anyhooo at my mom's, She buys the stuff for boil and plenty drinks, chips/dips, etc. But my brother does all the work and boils it all.
I'm responsible for going pick up(and bring home) our disabled cousin from whatever Baton Rouge housing project he's in at the moment. He use to live in Alamo Plaza. Now he's in the legit HOOD in NBR 70805.
I also am bringing a buffalo chicken dip that costs about $15 to make.
Chip in and quit yer bitchin.

If you’re invited to my home for a party bring whatever alcohol you want and the rest is on me.
