Have an opportunity to start a job that’s in a field that I recently was certified for. That being said, the new perspective employers is only letting me give a week due to the urgency of the job. The company I’m thinking about leaving has been very good to me and my family and I am good friends with my supervisors. Wwtotd?

Frick you, pay me.

And never accept a counter offer.

I think one week notice is fine considering the circumstances. But the fact that your new employer is demanding this is a red flag

Explain the situation straight up and say that you would really like to give them 2 weeks but you have to do what is best for your family.

Go talk to your supervisor. If you are good friends he'll help you make a decision. Be careful of the new company, they sound like they don't give a crap about you.

If you really do like your company, talk with them and be honest about the situation. Most companies that I know of don’t expect you to work out two weeks anymore because most people are lazy assholes that won’t do shite any way in their last two weeks. If they really were good people, they will understand and not sweat the two weeks unless they are crippled without you.

Your company has not been good to you. You feel respected because the company has been good to the company, and the indirect result has benefited you. Likely because you're a valuable employee.

Your other employer is nothing. If it didn't benefit them in some regard, whether that's morale, good press, in line with their "culture", they wouldn't hesitate to treat you like dirt.

Do what is best for you, always.

Offer to work part time for both jobs for the second week. Put in 6 hours at each.

Be wary of this. They will probably have no problem fricking you too.

Prospective is the word you seek. No one cares if you leave a fast food job with no notice. It’s obviously not a job that requires competency in the English language.

New company is already making their mistakes your problem before you even start.

Don’t anticipate that getting better after you have quit your old job.

Make sure the benefits of this move are substantial
