Red flag. Good luck.

Why? Because they need to fill the position to probably move forward on time sensitive project

OP, what's the pay/location difference

I'd be nervous as hell about a place that won't allow a two week notice.

Outside of very few jobs and people, why would you want a brand new employee working on such a time sensitive job where one week makes all the difference?

Your current job knows you won’t be doing shite your last two weeks anyway.

They wouldn’t give you two weeks before laying you off.

How did they get in that situation without staff to handle it already? It would make me nervous about poor management, and their sensitivity to human factors like wrapping up your old business and transitioning.

Another poster pointed out a very legit reason for wanting the paperwork early, and I wouldn't take this demand as a deal-breaker, but it would make me more cautious about taking the job.

What business has something so mission critical that cant survive without one brand new employee for another week?

HUGE red flag of micro management at best.

Small company that was just awarded a contract because another company dropped the ball. They are already stretched thin. They know I know what I’m doing as far as the job and I can fall right in on the position.

As previously stated, it’s less about worrying about fricking over your current employer, and more about the fact that your future employer can’t operate for two fricking weeks without you. I wouldn’t want to walk into that situation. It’s the earliest context clue you can find that you’re walking into a shitshow of an operation. Proceed carefully

Tell them you’ll drag up a week early for an extra 10k signing bonus. If it’s that critical, since it is against the way you were raised/do business

Would they give you two weeks notice of being fired?

Do it, but get some sort of long term commitment. If they need you bad enough to jump immediately, they'll be willing to give some assurances

Maybe a sickness, death, etc if it business related, there are tons of reason to need to fill a position immediately.
They are paying top dollar, increasing his pay by 20k

Bottom line is that the current company probably wants him gone day 1, especially if there is any sort of overlap in customer base between the 2 companies.

Saying it's a "red flag" on a message board, not knowing details, is reckless and probably causing more stress than needs to exist.

Go in. Be honest. If they are decent, they will understand and wish him well......or step up and match the pay.
Pretty simple
