Maybe the weather channel wants to come take some video of my neighbors plastic chair in the middle of my yard.

That's about the extent of the damage they've shown so far

Crap, my folks are over off Esler/Donahue Ferry. They were worried about the pine trees.

The pine trees are holding up ok so far. The one that snapped here was pretty thin. Looks like a l imb on the ground.

hoping pecan island stayed at 9 feet or less as well

Looks like the gauges close to there stopped reporting, but the closest one that still is had a level that was about 1.5 feet less than it did for Ike.

Hopefully in my house if it's OK. Waiting on a friend to go look at it for me later. That or I'll finally give in to my wife and buy a 40'RV we've been talking about while we repair.

The Vermilion River at Perry is at major flood stage but appears to have crested. There are no other historic levels listed to compare with past storms.

I was waiting for winter and the end of the year hoping they'd get cheaper.

Getting reliable reports in Cameron that storm surge was around 9-10ft. So less than what was projected.

That is fantastic news.

Calcasieu River Gauage at Saltwater Barrier

Looks like the calcasieu did not get anywhere near what was projected at the salwater barrier

Yea I was told the VHF radio chatter over night was talking 8-8.5 ft or so, so in the ballpark, nowhere near the 15-20 ft projected. Hope these reports are true

I had been saying a direct hit on Cameron was actually best for surge because it would put it all in the Lacassine Wildlife Refuge instead of forcing it up the Calcasieu River. Also, it's undeniable that the relatively quick blow up of Laura helped keep surge impacts down (not as much time to build up water as something like an Ike or Rita that traversed the entire GOM at their impact strength).

Lastly, as I pointed out in the thread yesterday afternoon, they were not projecting 15-20 ft surges, they were projecting 15-20 ft surge, max. Their 50th percentile surge number was actually 9ft - meaning there was a 50% chance the surge would be higher/lower than 9-11 ft at the direct impact area.

I'm assuming you're probably generator prepared, as I'd think that electricity might be out for awhile. But if can swing it, a 40' RV sounds like a great idea, with or without the damage.
