For comparison Audrey was 946 millibars but winds were 125 mph at landfall.
Difference is, no one left for Audrey.
Similar storms. Lot less human catastrophe with Rita.

Would you rather a meteorologist that reads exactly from NWS?
No, I kind of like it, I was just making light of the whole weatherman taking center stage during tropical season

Yeah. Over 12 foot surge plus waves with people not evacuated and little or no levees was catastrophic.

Anyone get 18z euro?
I do but it hasn’t started to run yet.
As I and others stated recently, the center appeared to be further north OR redeveloping further north of the NHC 5:00 location. Well that appears to be confirmed by the latest recon. This potentially could result in a slightly more eastern track. Not by much, but noticeable. We’ll have to wait and see if the NHC updates to confirm or not.

Duke/rt, looking at the Radar near Cuba it appears the center is north of the area the NHC is calling the center. Is this just because it’s a broad circulation and it appears that is the center? Just curious.
the low & mid level circulations aren't exactly stacked yet
the spin you're noticing is probably the mid-level while the low-level circulation (which the NHC tracks) is south of it
that answer taken from a couple pages back from people smarter than me
ETA: of course that could be confirmed by the Hurricane Hunters being in the storm
hard to confirm that if it's over Cuba b/c the planes usually can't fly over Cuban airspace
