That post isn't about 2 storms combining. It is about 2 storms being in the gulf at the same time.
And to answer your questions, no storms won't combine into a bigger storm.

So... this is actually a serious question... could the systems actually absorb into one another and form a massive storm? Or, would they work like sticking opposite ends of magnets together and push each other away (further east and further west)? How does this work? I don't recall seeing two systems in the smaller gulf next to each other around the same time frame.
ETA: who tf keeps downvoting me? This is actually a serious question. The above post talks about in the past there has only been two occasions where this has happened. But what did the storms do?

Fujiwhara Effect
When two hurricanes spinning in the same direction pass close enough to each other, they begin an intense dance around their common center. If one hurricane is a lot stronger than the other, the smaller one will orbit it and eventually come crashing into its vortex to be absorbed. Two storms closer in strength can gravitate towards each other until they reach a common point and merge, or merely spin each other around for a while before shooting off on their own paths. But often, the effect is additive when hurricanes come together — we usually end up with one massive storm instead of two smaller ones.
Last week, we saw this rare phenomena happen twice; once between hurricanes Hilary and Irwin in the East Pacific and another between typhoon Noru and tropical storm Kulap in the West Pacific.

Painfully waiting on the 12z GFS to get out far enough. Out to 78 hrs now.

That's true... I guess if they were in the gulf at the same time as larger systems, it would be different.
Fujiwhara Effect says they can interact with each other if within about 900 miles. There will be a point when they are within 900 miles of each other, if both move as modeled, but, not for long as likely 14 will make landfall and fall apart.

Would two at the same time cause them to both be weak due to them competing for energy?

Is that 13 or 14 depicted? Why only showing one?

14 is the one in the Gulf there. 13 is there between FL and Cuba but just doesn't look good at that hour.

Right, I understand that. I just was curious what the impact on one, or both storms would be should it play out that way.

I don’t think there has ever been 2 hurricanes in the gulf at the same time/
Maybe 2 tropical storms or a combo deal with hurricane, tropical storm and maybe a depression but not 2 hurricanes at the same time

Vermilion Bay
Seems like anytime there is a system in the gulf and landfall could be between brownsville Tx to Bama coast, the GFS has that fricker going right up Vermilion Bay's booty hole
