NOAA released their final hurricane season forecast........it's not pretty and exceeds all prior marks. Per the release,“This is one of the most active seasonal forecasts that NOAA has produced in its 22-year history of hurricane outlooks"

A few months ago, someone on Twitter came up with an interactive, 5 axis (N,S,E,W, + vertical) hodograph representation that helped make visualizing hodographs much easier. You could "see" the veering of winds and sheer aloft at different altitudes. It got a lot of attention.

Unfortunately, at that time, it was only historical. The guy said he wanted to get it to the point of current storms/conditions, and he'd be working to get it online this summer. I think there may be others who have done this, too.

It is pretty cool to see it in "3D".

Another short lived weak system looks to be on tap. After that, maybe nothing major until the end of August or beyond.

Wishcasting: please, please let any late Aug-mid Sept storms head safely out to sea! Finally going to have a visit from family I haven't seen in a year - their arrival date in FL? Sept 10

Madden Julian phase is not favorable for development for another week. Likely a nothingburger curving up into the middle of the Atlantic, whether named or not named. Since ships sailing for Europe generally take the great circle on the Gulf Stream, they won't be affected going.

24 named storms doesn’t mean 24 landfalls. I would surmise that 20 + named seasons have 70 % of them being fish storms.

While the number of named storms has set a record, the storms have not been very strong. No majors and several of the TS were named only for a very short time. Let’s hope the trend continues.

If you look at just the hurricane predictions it’s not that extraordinary. It’s mostly the total prediction that is way up there.

Say 25 years ago, how many of the 2020 storms would have earned a name then?
Seems like there wasn't as much reconnaissance done then as it is now.
