Go around the area. It isn't just NOLA. St Tammany is making New Orleans look like a well oiled machine. Jefferson Parish lost their credit rating because they aren't doing financial audits.

LaToya and the word wisdom do not belong in the same lifetime, much less the same sentence.

I didn't open the link, but if she actually said that, then the words "her wisdom" are the ultimate oxymoron.

I guess it’s time for budgeting phase ta-two.

I don't follow every American city very closely but I'd find it hard to believe there has been a worse mayor of an American Major City ever!! The combination of ignorance and arrogance is the perfect storm of incompetence.
but her DGAF is almost admirable it's so brazen.

Jackson Ms waves
Houston Tx says howdy
99.9% of cities with D majors are fiscally irresponsible or corrupt, it’s a feature of a flaw.

-submit a budget cut to the bone that she knows will be rejected
-leave it to the council and mayor elect to fix it
-veto it so they will have to override and thus own HER incompetence
-walk away

Can’t believe that shithole and how stupid it’s residents are to elect that bitch twice. The state’s largest newspaper also endorsed her twice.
She also defeated a recall don’t forget that

I assume this is all posturing since they can just pass it again in a month?
They could, but it would be a nightmare for the accounting department.
Terrebonne Parish was in a similar situation this week. The council and parish president finalized the budget before Thanksgiving so it could be voted on this week for final approval.
Some council members didn’t like the budget and wanted to submit a last minute change or hold off a provision that reclassified and gave some parish office workers raises but did not give some field workers anything including a COLA.
The attorney argued that it was too much of a substantial change and could not be done at this time and because their next meeting was going to held next week, they could not delay the vote and re-advertise the ordinance according to law in enough time. Accounting also bitched about how many changes were made in anticipation of the budget, and that reverting to this years budget to start next year would mean several changes that would need to be made to get the budgets to balance even after approving the new budget next year.
Ultimately after few council members playing word karate, they passed it on a 5-4 vote, and will likely submit changes to consider in January.

But also doesn’t the council budget have some controversial items like repurposing dedicated federal dollars away from their purpose to fill other gaps?
I’ve seen some commentary but won’t pretend to be an expert
Just curious about the actual budget and not just mocking the goon opposing it… we can’t forget this council approved one with no overtime, absconded on their monitoring duties and then acted shocked by the large gap that overtime had created, for instance.
Latoya is a bum but are we really on “trust us we got it” status with the rest?

Well the budget passed unanimously so they will override the veto.
Moreno is the de facto Mayor now.

Thank you for reminding me of the third layer of her "success" in addition to the two terms.

I mean, the 2025 budget had NOPD at like $40k in overtime projected?
And then like a week after everyone made it through elections it turned to “how were we unaware of this massive overage?!?”
I get it - teedy was and still is actively terrible. I just think a lot of folks are too ok rolling on vibes with JP and Helena, simply because they are calling out Latoya.

You aren’t wrong. It just isn't the entire story. People are harping on the overtime as some big gotcha because they only read headlines.
NOPD has always underestimated the overtime budget because they are budgeted for at least 300 more officers than they actually employ. Until this year overtime was paid out of those funds and then the eventual overages were covered by the general budget.
Not defending the practice of purposefully underfunding overtime in the budget but just noting that the overage was (mostly) accounted for until NOPD changed how they used their dollars.
The shortage was brought up in June or July as well. The mayor's office provided their plan on how it was going to be covered. The plan was virtually impossible to pull off with what we know now.

A voter base that will only vote one way, regardless of the results of their previous voting history

Well, that, and terrorism, Super Bowl, presidential visit, etc….
I get there are many layers of nuance to the OT discussion. Just feels like a lot of folks are breezing through any second thoughts on the next administration’s plans simply on “as long as it’s not Latoya” and not going an inch deeper

Moreno won't be some sort of savior. Like every jurisdiction in the state someone that can make it through without grifting or sinking further would be sufficient.
Also, should note that 2024 and 2025 overtime really weren't that different. Probably within 10% of each other.
