Mayor LaToya Cantrell has asked the City Planning Commission to suggest ways to create more affordable housing in New Orleans, a month after the city snagged $28 million in federal grants for that purpose.
Cantrell is interested in whether "tiny houses" can work in New Orleans, whether the city should ban converting residential buildings to commercial, and how it can best encourage the redevelopment of vacant property.

Once the planners have made their recommendations, Cantrell plans to create a citywide housing strategy based in part on their ideas.

She should just make a plan and let it fail so people can bitch that the city didn't do the proper research before proceeding.

There is probably no other issue that freaks Democrat politicians out more than the issue of "affordable housing."

And it freaks Republicans in neighboring parishes out as well. The poors gotta move somewhere.

While the study will most likely be a waste of funds, the underlying idea is not. There are numerous other cities that use tiny houses/semi-communal set-ups as a gap-filler between complete homelessness and being able to regularly afford a place to rent.

Of course, it will be fully underwater by 2050 if she can’t un-frick the SWB.

Complaining about who does the study (such as paying the traffic camera company to produce a traffic camera study) is legitimate. Complaining because the city is doing their due diligence before spending tax dollars is just being hypocritical.

Stupid asses. The city has tons of vacant houses and to an extent vacant lots in the lower 9th and the East. Let the market dictate what happens.

how it can best encourage the redevelopment of vacant property.

Can start by the city, the zoning boards, the NIMBY's and the like stop putting so many stupid damn restrictions on things.

Tiny houses float better. They're a good idea for New Orleans.

The Government always does such a great job advising on land use and housing so this should work out just great.
