same, but the encrypted apps are amazing to me. I can’t figure out snap chat or understand really how to work Instagram or Twitter effectively to be able to find my friends there. And Reddit makes no sense to me how do you find a thread you want? One of the things I like about this thread is people hyperlink stuff so I can go right to the article.

At least their propaganda is entertaining.

I suspect by the end of the day Oryx will have counted 600 Russian tanks lost, which means the Russians may have lost about 50% of the tanks they sent into Ukraine (assuming they had about 1200 available when they started the war). That estimate could be a lower bound though and they probably have dedicated more tanks to the war since then.

The Japanese were pessimistic about their chances. They went to war because of national honor.

You’re getting downvoted but yall are sort of both right (and wrong). The part you’re wrong about is the “going to war for national honor.” They didn’t attack Pearl Harbor out of “honor,” but you are correct that they also were under no real illusion they could defeat the US militarily in a big war.

It’s hard to see in hindsight - and obviously it was a bit of a stumble - but there was a certain almost convincing logic to the Japanese decision to bomb. You think we are divided these days? Pre-WW2 America would laugh. We had the Great Depression, Jim Crow, prohibition, etc… The only thing the public seemingly agreed on is we didn’t want to go to war, not even in Europe where we had all our cultural, historic, and economic ties. Why would anyone GAF about a regional Asian conflict with almost nothing in the way of American interests or ties? Surely Americans would have more important things to worry about than a targeted military strike against a naval base most people didn’t know we had on some island in the middle of Pacific. You can almost make the case that it would be downright illogical to expect a strong reaction from the US. The Japanese plan wasn’t to try to defeat the US in some drawn out war; it was to quickly signal to the US that continuing to dick around over there isn’t worth it.

Unfortunately for them and every other foreign leader past and present with that same logic, it is really not normal the quickness and efficiency with which Americans will get over each other and go frick up anyone who tries to ruin our normal routine of fighting ourselves. Americans are weird asf

Not to sound cheesy but it really is a hallmark of the American experience that we have a lot of patience and even pride for the kind of internal division and infighting that most societies would consider a weakness. We consider it a strength, and other powers have and will continue to read it wrong at their peril

PS: before any politard can say it: yes, this includes the vast majority of the people who vote for the other team than you. Yes there will always be a fringe on all sides, but they get to go sit in the corner.

There are a lot of similarities comparing WWII crises and today. One lesson I pray the Russians review is how an under-resourced, mal-trained military fares against a united coalition of nations with limitless warfighting capability.

Agree, but we’re far more advanced and more in control globally and repeat our own historical mistakes so I’m not sold they won’t do the same in the end depending on how long and hard this goes.

Well that’s reassuring. I was hoping that was the case (I’ve got three posts total on politard board from 5 years ago) and I did ask the aforementioned retard to read back through my post history on this thread so I didn’t have to keep reexplaining. Plus I figured with Cents and I being the only two posters on this thread that have actually set foot in Ukraine and perhaps I’m the only one to visit Russia I might have something to add…

99% of your comment history in this thread was well supported with evidence throughout the thread, including a background of what your experiences are and why you're invested in this war.

The specific comment in question, though, regarding 0.2 and 0.47 being important numbers we will all know soon was at the time unsupported. I Googled and Duck-Duck-Go'd those numbers and couldn't see anything, however from your other post today it looks like its some sort of assumed advantage of the M777 Howitzer vs .the Russian equivalent.

Russia has managed to alienate one of the handful of countries that was kinda sorta on the fence...

quote:

TEL AVIV —

Israel on Monday lashed out at Russia over “unforgivable” comments by its foreign minister about Nazism and antisemitism, including claims that Hitler was Jewish and that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s Jewish origins do not mean his country can’t harbor Nazi elements.

Israel, which summoned the Russian ambassador in response to the remarks by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, said such comments blamed Jews for their own murder in the Holocaust.

It was a sharp setback to ties between the two countries at a time when Israel has sought to stake out a neutral position between Russia and Ukraine and remain in Moscow’s good books for its security needs in the Middle East.

Appreciate you BRillini. At the time I wasn’t sure how much I should say about that .2 to half a KM is a huge advantage obviously but the M777s weren’t guaranteed or broadcast at that point-I’ll say one thing for old snazzykhunt he made me check in with my folks to ask if ok to post. I kind of alluded to the extended range and munitions capabilities of the 600 series switchblade loitering drones at one point before and I regretted saying anything so I was reticent to post anything but vague numbers…

It’s going to get harder and harder to ally with Russia in the next couple of weeks. I expect India to fall out after a few more things come to light.

Happy to contribute.

FWIW - After seeing that, I believe you are who you say you are. You'll forgive me if I'm skeptical of people who are "in the know" on the internet. If not, eh, I don't care.

Skepticism is still important to help keep this place from drifting too far into echo chamber land!

Before you showed up in this thread I’ve explained 3-4 times who I am and who I speak with, when I say I’m tired of explaining, I mean it plainly. It was the Q shite that pissed me off. I’ll forgive your skepticism of course. You were right about the name calling too lol anyway-appreciate the acknowledgment, I assume you’ve been called worse.

https://nypost.com/2022/05/02/vladimir-putin-to-undergo-cancer-surgery-transfer-power/

quote:

Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to undergo cancer surgery and temporarily hand over power to a hardline former federal police chief, according to a new report.

Putin will transfer control of Russia’s government to Nikolai Patrushev, head of the Russian federal police’s Security Council, while he is incapacitated during and after the procedure, according to a video from the mysterious Telegram channel “General SVR” on Saturday.

The channel — which is purportedly run by a former Russian Foreign Intelligence Service lieutenant general known by the pseudonym “Viktor Mikhailovich” — reported that Putin has been told by doctors that he must undergo an operation.

quote:

“I will say that this is the worst option,” the narrator adds. “Patrushev is an outright villain. He is no better than Vladimir Putin. Moreover, he is a more cunning, and I would say, more insidious person than Vladimir Putin. If he comes to power, Russians’ problems will only multiply.”

It’s an open secret Putins health is bad, I’ve heard for certain he’s got cancer and parkys. The surgery won’t happen until after May 9th but there’s rumours it’s too late-like Steve Jobs too late. Vlads paranoia about ceding power even temporarily postponed this for 18-20 months which if it is bowl cancer is not good in terms of outcome. As far as Patrushev I inquired about him and people are saying hardline but less intelligent than Vlad ie more susceptible to shiny objects so he could be bought.
