“I call on the international community to urgently demand Russia to cease fire and allow repair units to restore power supply,” Kuleba tweeted. He said that reserve diesel generators could only power the plant for 48 hours.

FEMA should give them a refund if they buy more.

You got suckered by Vlad's words and never bothered to look at the petrostate motivations and more extensive land grab motivations.

Doubt it. Personally I fell for Zelensky's. I trusted his word more than Biden's and I was wrong. I'll admit it. I'm sure many others were the same.

I'm betting it has to do with the nuclear power plant. Remote monitoring of the plant had been lost earlier today.

Seeing estimates of Russian losses between 5 and 6 thousand now. With wounded over 15,000. That's from a "U.S. Official".

Senior Defense Official Holds a Background Briefing, March 9, 2022

biolab question and answer -

SENIOR DEFENSE OFFICIAL: Mike Brest?

Q: Good morning. Yesterday, Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland told the Senate Foreign Relations Committee that they're concerned Russian forces are trying to gain control over what she called, quote, "biological research facilities," unquote.

What can you tell us about these facilities?

SENIOR DEFENSE OFFICIAL: Yeah, the Russian narrative that they've put out there is that the -- that the United States is somehow running or facilitating, you know, biological weapons labs in Ukraine and that these labs are gonna pose a threat to them.

This is of a piece of the Russian playbook here, claim they're the victims; create a false narrative to try to justify their own aggressive actions. It is absurd. It is laughable. It is untrue.

People have such “weird” expectations in war.

Why would the occupying/attacking force want the occupied force to have power?

Because suddenly that wing of the poli board cares about "white nationalism."

I remember threads a few years back where people on that board were unironically asking what's so wrong about being a white nationalist.

After people explained to them that a white nationalist isn't just a nationalist who happens to be white, but actually someone who advocates for a pure white ethno-state, they then reiterated and asked what was so wrong about that

I believe it has more to do with the implications of what could happen if shite goes sideways at that plant.

Restore power to what?

Power was interrupted to the Chernobyl facility yesterday or the night before. The fuel still located there must be constantly kept cool by water pumps to prevent overheating and another release of radiation. The maximum estimated time before it began overheating without the pumps running was 48 hours. They cannot restore the electricity due to the activities of the Russian forces.

That statement was talking about Chernobyl. According to Ukraine, the Russians have “disconnected” Chernobyl from the grid, so they have lost remote monitoring and are operating on generator power.

The International Atomic Energy Agency doesn’t seem to think the loss of power is a huge deal in and of itself, from a safety standpoint. Ukraine is obviously arguing that it is, so who knows.

What’s more interesting (or terrifying, I don’t know) to me is that apparently the “monitoring” systems that have been knocked offline are there to identify any removal of radioactive material from the site.

I really would like to know if any of what you stated is factual. At this point, we can’t trust anything we’re hearing out of this event.
