You will also notice the "Kyiv Independent" did not report Ukraine only handed over 45 KIA Russian soldiers. I wonder why they left that part out

"The Russian Armed Forces have likely sustained approximately 900,000 casualties (killed and wounded) since invading Ukraine in 2022," the ministry said in its intelligence update published Thursday morning. "Of these, it is likely 200,000 - 250,000 Russian soldiers have been killed, Russia's largest losses since the Second World War."
Too many bodies to return?

The jokes on you. That quote was from a March Newsweek article.
But come on man, you really believe these body drops are any indication of just how many thousands of soldiers have been killed over the past three years and two months?

Ukraine orders troops to cease fire, document Russian violations after Putin declares 'Easter truce,' BBC Russia reports
by Abbey Fenbert April 19, 2025 9:28 PM
Ukrainian troops were ordered to cease firing on Russian positions shortly after Russian President Vladimir Putin announced an "Easter truce" on April 19, a senior Ukrainian military officer told the BBC's Russia service.
Putin earlier said he ordered a temporary ceasefire on Easter weekend, halting all military action from 6 p.m. Moscow time on April 19 until midnight on April 21.
Minutes after the start of the truce, Ukrainian units received orders to cease fire on Russian positions, a senior military officer reportedly told the BBC.
The officer said that troops were also ordered to document photo and video evidence of any Russian ceasefire violations and to return fire if necessary.

Ukraine proposes extending truce beyond Easter Sunday
by Abbey Fenbert and The Kyiv Independent news desk April 19, 2025 10:02 PM
If Russia is able to maintain a full ceasefire throughout Easter weekend, Ukraine would like to extend the truce for 30 days, President Volodymyr Zelensky said on April 19.
Earlier in the day, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that he ordered a halt on all combat operations during the Easter holiday. The temporary ceasefire is set to last from 6 p.m. Moscow time on April 19 until midnight on April 21.
Zelensky said that Kyiv was prepared to abide by a ceasefire if Russia is serious about halting attacks, but will respond in kind if Russia violates the truce.
"If complete silence really prevails, Ukraine proposes to extend it after the end of Easter on April 20," President Volodymyr Zelensky said the evening of April 19.
"This will show Russia's true intentions, because 30 hours is enough for headlines, but not for real confidence-building measures. Thirty days can give peace a chance."

Same thing they did to Crimea. It was mostly a land of ethnic Tatars. Stalin shipped them out and the ethnic Russians in. Stalin was very effective in his ethnic cleansing of Kaliningrad and Crimea (and to a lesser extent Ukraine with his Holodomor progrom). "Returning" Crimea to Ukraine has always been dubious, but I do think it should become the Tatar homeland again with a right of return of all Tatars displaced (many who live in Turkey and influence Turkish policy).

Also, when declaring independence neither Poland nor Lithuania would claim Kaliningrad. This would have watered their populace with still want to be Russia types.

Those WWII Stalinist era meat waves have a high cost.
Stalin had his troops charge through German mine fields simply taking the loses. I always wondered if the advancing Soviet troops put their hands over their ears while advancing.

But Ukraine isn’t even honoring the 30 hour ceasefire, why would they propose 30 days?

A report by Commander-in-Chief Syrskyi on the frontline as of 6:00 a.m.
Across various frontline directions, there have already been 59 cases of Russian shelling and 5 assaults by Russian units. In the sector of the Starobilsk Operational Tactical Group, one combat engagement was documented, in the Donetsk OTG sector there were three combat engagements – in the Pokrovsk and Novopavlivka directions, and one combat engagement took place near Stepove in the Zaporizhzhia direction. The enemy carried out dozens of FPV drone strikes.
In the Kursk region, Russian forces conducted artillery strikes and used drones.
Everywhere our warriors are responding as the enemy deserves, based on the specific combat situation. Ukraine will continue to act symmetrically.
Between 6:00 p.m. yesterday and midnight today, there were 387 instances of shelling and 19 assaults by Russian forces. Drones were used by Russians 290 times.
Overall, as of Easter morning, we can state that the Russian army is attempting to create the general impression of a ceasefire, while in some areas still continuing isolated attempts to advance and inflict losses on Ukraine. Russia must fully comply with the conditions of the ceasefire. Ukraine’s proposal to implement and extend the ceasefire for 30 days after midnight tonight remains on the table. We will act in accordance with the actual situation on the ground.
