Russian attacks cause blackouts in Sumy Oblast after Moscow says energy truce over
by Lucy Pakhnyuk April 19, 2025 4:34 AM
Blackouts have been reported in Sumy oblast after Russian strikes near Konotop and surrounding settlements on April 18.
The attacks come shortly after Moscow announced an end to the partial ceasefire on energy infrastructure strikes in effect between Russia and Ukraine. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said earlier on April 18 that the one-month period for the energy truce had expired.
According to Suspilne, explosions were heard near the city of Konotop around 8:00 p.m. local time.
While Konotop Mayor Artem Semenikhin reported that were no casualties or injuries, settlements in Sumy Oblast, including Krolevets and Shostka, lost power after the strikes. Local residents also reported that the water supply had been shut off.
Local energy officials confirmed on Telegram that the blackouts were a result of Russian strikes on energy infrastructure.
In March, the United States brokered a partial ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine on attacks against energy facilities, after the Kremlin refused to accept a full 30-day ceasefire on all hostilities.
Since then, Moscow has violated the ceasefire more than 30 times, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi said on April 16.
In his comments on April 18, Peskov did not go into detail as to whether Russia plans to resume attacks on energy facilities or extend the ban. The attacks against Sumy Oblast indicate that Russia will not extend the partial ceasefire and has resumed attacks on critical infrastructure.

JUST IN! Bloomberg: U.S. Proposes Recognizing Russian Control Over Liberated Territories and Ukraine’s NATO Withdrawal in Exchange for Ceasefire
According to European officials cited by Bloomberg, the United States has presented a proposal in Paris aimed at ending the conflict, which includes recognition of Russia’s control over the territories it currently holds in Ukraine.
The proposal also calls for Ukraine to abandon its efforts to join NATO — a key demand voiced by Moscow since the beginning of the conflict.
In return, Washington is reportedly willing to consider a gradual easing of sanctions against Russia, provided a ceasefire is reached.
American representatives in Paris stated they aim to achieve a complete cessation of hostilities in Ukraine within the coming weeks.
So the Russian team in Paris propose:
1.) recognition of Russia’s control over the territories it currently holds in Ukraine;
2.) for Ukraine to abandon its efforts to join NATO;
3.) easing of sanctions against Russia;
4.) no security guarantees for Ukraine at any level.
Sound familier? This has been the Russian line for the last two years, just coming from their new mouthpieces.
This is pitiful. It's not a legitimate peace proposal, it's a poisened chalice designed with one purpose in mind - to allow Trump to ditch the Ukrainians by blaming them for not accepting this rediculous proposal.
Trump will run like the coward he is. Putin's only problem is the additional bad PR Shine Boy will catch as a result. Putin is gradually burning through Trump's credibility within the US. But as long as the war ends under Russian terms before next year's midterm elections, he won't care.

Putin makes sure to break the 'partial ceasefire' within minutes of the 30-day period expiration, showing yet again what a failure Trump is.
Ukraine stuck to their agreement and gave Trump's fatally-flawed attempt at a ceasefire every chance they could. But you can't have a ceasefire if only one party wants it and you refuse to apply any of the ample leverage available to bring the other party to accept it.
Putin played the US like a fiddle and won't have to worry about American support anymore. Trump is backing out as fast as possible, deserting Ukraine and Europe.
Ukraine will fight on and, with their own weapon production and support from Europe, continue the stalemate to their advantage and gradually destroy the Russian military support infrastructure as they were doing so well before this 'ceasefire'.
Again, with Trump in the White House, the Ukrainians need the US like they need AIDS. Make the clean cut, continue to show Trump's compromised weakness to the American electorate and keep killing Russians.

Pentagon turmoil deepens: Top Hegseth aide leaves post “There is a complete meltdown in the building,” one official said.

Joe Kasper, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s chief of staff will leave his role in the coming days for a new position at the agency, according to a senior administration official, amid a week of turmoil for the Pentagon. Senior adviser Dan Caldwell, Hegseth deputy chief of staff Darin Selnick and Colin Carroll, the chief of staff to Deputy Defense Secretary Stephen Feinberg, were placed on leave this week in an ongoing leak probe. All three were terminated on Friday

The changes will leave Hegseth without a chief of staff, deputy chief of staff, or senior adviser in his front office. “There is a complete meltdown in the building, and this is really reflecting on the secretary’s leadership,” said a senior defense official. “Pete Hegseth has surrounded himself with some people who don’t have his interests at heart.”
quote:
“Everyone knew that Pete Hegseth did not possess the leadership qualities, background, or experience to be Secretary of Defense,” said Chris Meagher, who served as assistant Defense secretary for public affairs during the Biden administration. “Everything we’ve seen since then — the firing of several American heroes because of perceived lack of loyalty, the sloppiness of Signalgate, the complete lack of transparency, and now several political staff being shown the door — has only confirmed he doesn’t have what it takes to lead.”

What HUR [Ukrainian military intelligence] can do to Russia versus what HUR will do to Russia has largely been a matter of not upsetting Washington. This dates back to the Obama era. Sever the U.S.-Ukrainian partnership, and HUR becomes uncorked. I’m fairly sure Trump hasn’t thought this through, but he’ll find out.

BIDEN was weak and prolonged a war that should have been stopped or prevented.
Weak and useless was Obama in 2014.

Republican US Congressman Fitzpatrick visits Ukraine’s front line, signs a shell for Putin
by Anna Fratsyvir April 19, 2025 1:23 PM
U.S. Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick, a pro-Ukraine Republican representing Pennsylvania, visited Ukrainian troops near the front line on April 18, following his meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv.
"These are amazing soldiers, the men and women of the Ukrainian military, much like the men and women of the U.S. military, have this amazing fighting spirit. They're fighting for their democracy, they're fighting for the freedom – all of us in America need to stand behind them," Fitzpatrick said in a video address filmed on the front line, published on his Facebook account.
"I always have and always will have their back. I encourage all my colleagues in Congress to come here."
Fitzpatrick serves as the ranking member of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Europe, Energy, the Environment, and Cyber.

I was told that was gonna happen Day One. But we're approaching Day 100 with no sign yet.
Did it ever occur to you that it was Donald J Trump who green lit the $95 billion in aid to Ukraine a year ago?
Congress (Mike Johnson) and the Biden administration had stopped all aid to Ukraine as of December 2023. Now it's April 12th 2024 and Mike Johnson goes to Mar a Lago to meet with Trump. They discuss Ukraine and what Trump wants done there.
As a direct result of this meeting, on April 20th just one week after getting back to Washington, Johnson says he now supports giving $95 billion in aid to Ukraine.
I guess you guys think Trump didn't want this and Johnson acted against his wishes? Are you for real?

You better prove that to Cope before he goes postal.

There's nothing to prove. It's all there for anyone to see.
It's the age old saying: Don't pay any attention to what he says. Pay attention to what he does.
He authorized $95 billion in US aid to Ukraine one year ago.
Now he's been president for 3 months and he hasn't done a thing to stop that money and arms flowing to Ukraine.
Looks like Trump supports Ukraine to me
