Moving the goal line???

So it appears.

from CBS...

Washington — Ukrainian officials have indicated to their U.S. counterparts they are willing to sign a key minerals agreement, days after the original plan to sign the deal at the White House imploded in an acrimonious Oval Office meeting between President Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Vice President JD Vance.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who has been one of the negotiators who spoke with Zelenskyy about the minerals agreement was asked by CBS News "Face the Nation" moderator Margaret Brennan Sunday whether the economic deal was still on the table.

"Not at present," he responded.

Multiple sources said a deal is not finalized. And the parameters of the agreement could change because the president is now holding out for a "bigger, better deal," said a person familiar with the talks, granted anonymity to speak frankly about the details of the back-and-forth.

Administration officials told CBS there was no plan Tuesday afternoon for Mr. Trump or his top advisers to sign a deal. In his address to a joint session of Congress Tuesday night, Mr. Trump said that Zelenskyy sent him a letter earlier in the day in which the Ukrainian leader offered to sign the minerals deal "at any time that is convenient to you."

"Nobody wants peace more than Ukrainians," Zelenskyy wrote in a lengthy post on social media Tuesday. "My team and I stand ready to work under President Trump's strong leadership to get a peace that lasts."

You know it's really strange that when I said I didn't want to allow strikes deep into Russia because of the threat of escalation and nuclear war,

So you shared the exact same thinking as Biden and his advisors!

Leave it to Lee to come in here with a dumb arse point that if you agree with one thing someone said or did that must mean you agree with everything else

The mood in here was absolutely giddy talking about a future Russian economic collapse, Russian oil infrastructure getting hit with drones, and the loosening of weapons restrictions this time last year. Now its like a funeral home in here.

I blame the ISW. They've long been suggesting Russia was on the brink of a collapse of morale. And Zelensky handled that entire Trump meeting poorly.

The only thing that keeps Russia as a major power is nuclear weapons, as otherwise, their performance has been terrible considering their prewar reputation. I can't see a situation where the country, in the throes of a severe demographic crisis, can actually be a major player on the world stage regardless of what occurs in Ukraine. Each and every one of their war aims hasn't been met, and while I do think the Europeans are pussyfooting, there is every indication that they are increasing military spending in preparation for something towards the end of the decade.

[quote]Now Zelensky has painted himself in a corner by not just signing that insanely fair minerals deal when he was in D.C. Now Trump is pissed off and is going to squeeze on him because he knows that Europe can’t feed Ukraine alone so now Trump has 100% of the leverage. Whoever advises Zelensky on his staff needs to be fired immediately. We would be almost a week into having a deal already signed and I guarantee Trump would have already been on the phone demanding a sit down with the 3 countries and Europe is they want to sit in the corner and watch.[/quotal

All true, but then it begs the question, how bad does Trump want peace? He says he does, but then he tries to throw his weight around and exact more out of Ukraine. Is that getting closer to s settlement? It’s just delaying things.

Meanwhile what is going on with Russia. Is he trying to get them to settle?

And is far more hawkish than Zelensky, from what I can gather. Seems like the Russians are relying on the US to bail them out. Sad!

Volodymyr Zelenskyy /
@ZelenskyyUa
I had a meeting with French President
@EmmanuelMacron
on the sidelines of the European Council meeting today in Brussels. I thanked Emmanuel for his clear and principled stance in support of Ukraine and the need for new, more substantial steps to protect our entire Europe—our peoples, our institutions, and our European way of life.

We discussed the upcoming meeting on March 11 at the level of military representatives of the countries willing to put in greater efforts to ensure reliable security in the context of ending this war. We coordinated our positions and next steps.

We have an absolutely clear shared vision that real and lasting peace is possible through cooperation between Ukraine, all of Europe, and the United States. The war must end as soon as possible.

We have prominent American journalists who wanted Trump in prison. I believe some wanted him assassinated. People here have wanted Putin assassinated

Why can’t we all get along?.

We are entering the Golden Age.

All of this will do more to create a left-ward lurch than you can imagine.
