and I would guess the Greens (Grüne) will do as they usually do and partner with SPD, putting them in the coalition with the CDU/CSU... with the AfD serving as a mutual enemy and uniting force.
The CDU under Merkel had effectively drifted over to being centre-left... I wonder where exactly Merz will land it, especially since he's depending on the centre-left parties to form a governing coalition!
Yes, I agree. The Greens did poorly yesterday and will have little leverage in the Bundestag. Their neutral stance on Ukraine and all their crying wolf over US gas prices hurt them.
Right now, many national politicians in Germany are putting in the hardest work of their careers - trying to save their cush jobs in Berlin. The bloated size and cost of the Bundestag forced a complicated downsizing from 735 members to 630 members for this session, so the number of seats for the musical chairs has decreased considerably. The prospect of being forced to go out and actually work for a living is too frightening to behold, so a massive arse-kissing festival is expected to move through Berlin this week.
There will be huge doses of Schadenfreude in seeing the likes of Scholz, Sahra Wagenknecht and indirectly Die Grosse Arschloch Comrade Merkle slink back under their rocks. Green Party Minister Robert Habeck, who drove a €15 billion renewable energy program by closing all nuclear power plants against the advice of... well, like everyone except his tree-hugger party members, will hopefully join that list as well. i could go on with this list but the German press will be deliciously covering it all going forward. Stay tuned campers.

The Green Party was originally funded by the USSR.
It was shocking to me that they supported Ukraine. They've been for anything that helps Germany with energy, including big anti "fracking" even though the technique has been used in Germany's limestone formations for decades. Very large reserves of oil and gas bearing shale straddles the French/German border.
As for the AfD it is a predominant in former East Germany which is not exactly productive part of the nation. Dow Chemical bought a chemical complex there built by the commies and spent a fortune cleaning up that environmental disaster. It got rid of the plant a decade later, meant to be a crown jewel of its European operations. The engineer who was head of that cleanup was appointed head of the Union Carbide Demolition project which was to remove all of the idle process units in former Union Carbide plants after the merger. Dude was a dumbass all he did was hire URS (Feinstein's husband owned a controlling interest) to provide assessment and scope at each location. At least at the Taft, LA complex the most FUBAR scope I've ever witnessed which was the only walk through I made. I was told by all other bidders that it was worse by a lot everywhere else, mainly at Texas City and in West Virginia. Neither the engineer nor the URS dudes knew the difference in stainless steel and carbon steel. Yes, the engineer was East German.

I'm not making up anything. I said we have to know what his definition is, because I guarantee you that he has some ideas about what a peace for Ukraine looks like that has nothing to do with tranquility or any of that bullshite.
Do you believe Ukraine can have a peace without concrete security guarantees? Because I know Zelensky doesn't. Nor should he, thats an understandable ask.
I am simply asking what else does he want in order to resign (because like the OU fan said, he could just do it and he hasn't. Why is that?) and also stating that if his asks are unrealistic then the offer wasn't made in good faith. We don't know that for sure, which is why I want to know what his definition of peace is.
I know this stuff is hard for you, but you'll catch up eventually,

"Are you ready to resign as President if it means peace for Ukraine?"
"Yes, if it means peace for Ukraine. Or I can exchange it for joining NATO," - President Zelenskyy.
This is the version from the Gerashchenko tweet. CNN has a different version of this quoute.
quote:
“If (it guarantees) peace for Ukraine, if you really need me to resign, I am ready. I can exchange it for NATO.”
No "or" before the NATO bit. So if the CNN quote is correct, he is only offering to resign if it gets NATO membership.
Seems different outlets have different versions.
ABC:
quote:
"If for peace for Ukraine, it's truly necessary for you that I leave my post, I am ready," Zelenskyy replied to Pannell asking if he was prepared to step down it if could help peace. "We can exchange it for NATO membership. If those are the terms, then let's do it without delay.
That also is implying he would do it only for NATO membership.
Maybe some outlets were just lazily quoting him and left the "or" out, but it changes the meaning of this by quite a bit if the ABC and CNN versions are accurate.

Peace? Yeah, probably.
But again, you don't get what American First means.
Trump's primary goal is to get America out of this mess, while at the same time finding some mutually agreeable solution.
All Trump needs is for Cargo Pants to throw him a realistic bone.
But instead, the only thing Cargo Pants does is insult Trump and offer up unattainable concessions.
At some point Trump will have no choice other than to say "I tried", pull out, and tell Putin to have at it. Then it will be up to the Europeans to wear the albatross around their neck alone.

I've found that foreign groups who supported or were supported by the USSR aren't attached to the country itself, its the ideology.
Whereas for Russians its about the country itself, empire, power (or at least perceived power) etc.
There was a faction of the IRA that would have had Ireland be to the UK what Cuba was to us for a long time. They supported and were supported by the USSR. A lot of IRA factions got weapons from the USSR but didn't necessarily support them.

National Security Advisor Mike Waltz Rules Out U.S. Troop Deployment to Ukraine After Peace Deal and NATO Membership.
“That is not back on the table. I do not see the United States allowing Ukraine to join NATO and then having U.S. troops immediately obligated under Article 5 for Ukraine’s defense.”
“That is a very different scenario, and I want to be clear on that. We have President Macron coming, and we have Prime Minister Starmer of the United Kingdom coming, but that is distinct from the U.S. commitment to NATO and its existing member states.”
“We are absolutely committed to NATO as a whole and to our Article 5 treaty obligations with member countries. However, security guarantees for Ukraine are a separate discussion.”

I think its funny that people don't understand that 'America First' means that yes, some other places won't get X thing from us anymore and that will be bad for them, thats a feature not a bug. Trump's job is to pick and choose (hopefully with a lot of help from what I think is a pretty good team around him) which things aren't worth it for the US to be helping with.

This likely has to be passed by Ukraine's legislature.
My big question is which company(s) have the rights to this. We know that before the 2014 invasion by Russia, rights to oil/gas were held by Shell, Exxon and Chevron which cancelled their deals in 2014. Shell has the Donbas, Chevron had Crimea and offshore, Exxon has west of the Dnipro to explore and develop. Onshore was tight shale formations to be developed. Ukraine once had a lot of reserves of conventional oil/gas which have been mostly depleted over time. Shale formations are the souce of all oil and gas previously produced in the world.

BTW: that statement that you made about the AfD not getting 20% didn't age well did it? I believe that you said 19.5.
They got almost 21%.

It’s not complicated, Zekensky said he would resign if it brought peace or if it got Ukraine in NATO. Withall the recent talk of him being a dictator and an obstacle to peace, I believe offering to resign is smart.
And it’s not hard to imagine a deal where Ukraine retreats ftom Kursk, Crimea becomes Russian and the battle lines in Eastetn Ukraine become the new boundary and all hostilities cease. And Zelensjy would resign and new elections would be held.
But keep playing the troll, keep playing word games, and keep agitating posters. It seems to be your hobby.
Meanwhile, I’m watching to see how Trump reacts.

I'm simply asking if there are other conditions that he considers necessary for their to be "peace".
I already laid out one, security guarantees. Do you think he would resign if he did not get any security guarantees in a "peace" deal? Can you answer that question?
