Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered his country’s deterrence forces – which includes nuclear arms – be placed on high alert.
“Top officials in leading NATO countries have allowed themselves to make aggressive comments about our country, therefore I hereby order the minister of Defense and the chief of the General Staff [of the RF Armed Forces] to place the Russian Army Deterrence Force on combat alert,” Putin said in televised meeting with Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov.
“Yes, sir,” replied Shoigu.
The Russian President also said the sanctions placed on Russia were unlawful.
According to state news agency RIA Novosti, citing the Russian Ministry of Defense, the strategic forces "are designed to deter aggression against Russia and its allies, as well as to defeat the aggressor (inflicting defeat on him), including in a war with the use of nuclear weapons."
Another loss among the senior command staff of the occupying army. During the fighting near Kharkiv, Vitaly Gerasimov, a Russian military leader, major general, chief of staff and first deputy commander of the 41st Army of the Central Military District of Russia, was killed. A number of senior Russian army officers were also killed and wounded.
Vitaly Gerasimov took part in the second Chechen war and the Russian military operation in Syria. He received a medal "for the return of the Crimea."
The data obtained also indicate significant problems with communication in the occupier's army and with the evacuation of their broken units.

Field grade and general officers need to take off rank insignia and especially with hand motions never look like they are "directing traffic" on the battlefield. Also, they don't want their subordinates "bowing and scraping" to them in the open. They need to appear like an old NCO that keeps getting busted back to E5 every few years because he is a frickup. Then no sniper will waste shot on them.

Well, I can't say you didn't warn me. Body parts flying everywhere. I made it about a minute in before I bailed.

Yeah, about that......a good bit, hell, maybe most of the Russian's radio communications have been over unencrypted channels. Seriously. They have been using civilian-grade radios to communicate since the beginning of the invasion. Quite a few people have been listening and jamming/messing with their comms. There are recordings out there with Russians trying to communicate and give orders with the Ukranian national anthem playing over them. People have been transmitting messages on repeat to clog their channels.
At first I thought it was bullshite, or at least minimal, but it has gone on, and more and more people have gotten involved. Pretty Busch League by the Russians if that is really happening.

Russians pour a shitload of money into defense. I think the world is quickly realizing that that money may have been earmarked for defense, but clearly went elsewhere (unless the entire budget was a lie all along).
I seriously can’t believe Putin, a man who has been so pragmatic and calculated over the years, has made such an incredible blunder. I would love to know what some of the world’s intelligence officials are making of this fiasco.

Ukrainian Marines have conducted a direct action raid at Kherson Airfield reportedly destroying 30 Russian helicopters on the ground Absolutely classic #Specialoperations role Respect to the men who stepped into the night and conducted the attack #courage

That's part of the Ukranian offensive we've seen over the past few days.

30 helicopters seems like exaggeration. Pretty much every helicopter or plane they’ve destroyed has had pictures/video with it, yet we are to believe they destroy 30 of them in one spot and no pictures/video proof exists?

Most of these claims have turned out to be true,no matter how fantastic. Nobody would have believed two weeks ago that Ukraine would be sniping generals and towing away tanks

Holy shite, I don't think I've ever seen drone footage of missile strikes on groups of people like that. Maybe a couple guys standing near a truck or house getting hit, but never a fricking missile dropped in the middle of a group of 20 guys standing around shooting the breeze.
That is the unfortunate result of a lack of discipline. If they kept up good spacing distance then the eye in the sky wouldn't waste a $20k+ missile on taking out a single combatant. Even the best units break congregation discipline when things are quiet but when the enemy has active drones you have to keep in mind quiet doesn't mean calm. That fart joke or Mary Jane rotten crotch story isn't so funny when your teeth are embedded in the side of a truck 10 meters away.

More on this from Bellingcat/Grozev. The lack of encrypted communications was very likely what led to the Ukranian attack that killed the General and others. Amazing.
@christogrozev

This is not the worst part. In the phone call in which the FSB officer assigned to the 41st Army reports the death to his boss in Tula, he says they've lost all secure communications. Thus the phone call using a local sim card. Thus the intercept. LINK
Absolutely amazing.
@christogrozev
quote:
In the call, you hear the Ukraine-based FSB officer ask his boss if he can talk via the secure Era system. The boss says Era is not working.
Era is a super expensive cryptophone system that @mod_russia introduced in 2021 with great fanfare. It guaranteed work "in all conditions" LINK
quote:
The idiots tried to use the Era cryptophones in Kharkiv, after destroying many 3g cell towers and also replacing others with stingrays. Era needs 3g/4g to communicate.
The Russian army is equipped with secure phones that can't work in areas where the Russian army operates.

Don't kid yourself. The Ukrainians are winning the information war, losing the actual war. Zelensky is admirable but it ends sadly in the complete destruction of his country. information war

Meh.
Make the Russians suffer. They may well "win", but at what costs?

This has never crossed my mind and is so logical when you analyze it.

This is his second tweet from that thread, and I am going to stop reading there:

further reinforce this. They are not pushing disinfo, but they are providing reinforcement of an impression that the RF are wholly indisciplined and wildly incompetent. 2/6
He's already setting himself up to minimize most all of the accomplishments of the Ukranians.
Hell, they've been able to go back on the offensive. They have killed high ranking officers in the past few days. Their country is littered with broken down Russian equipment. Their enemy, Russia, has proven at every turn it is wholly unprepared.
Sure, I get not buying every piece of Ukranian info. I get that the picture isn't all rosey. But, this guy is doing the same thing from a Russian perspective whilst ignoring a whole lot of positives for the Ukranians.
Again, Russia may well "win", but at what costs?
