It’s pretty obvious Russia is stacking Ukrainians up like cord wood. Does Ukraine have enough manpower to make it to summer?

No way. It’s been over for three years. Right?

What!?! Some posters here should straighten them out about how insane that is to even think about!

It is insane to think about it. Russia has lost most of its modern armor and depleted its missile stocks, suffered hundreds of thousands of casualties and inflation is out of control in Russia. Plus Russia will need to come up with new training, new tactics, and strategy because their “2nd strongest military in the world” couldn’t even conquer Ukraine. Maybe if Putin is thinking about a war in 15 years or so it would not be insane. However if Russia thinks it can challenge NATO in the next 10 years or so it is crazy.

The thing is, you don't realize that Putin is crazy. His country is demographically screwed and no longer seen as some powerhouse economic power, and he sees himself as the most powerful person on the planet. He's desperate and his ego has been bruised... and what does he have to lose, himself? Versus what he has to gain?

NATO was founded on the basis of preparing for a "potential" future war with Russia

Of course Russia is preparing for a conflict with a group that has been openly hostile toward them. Doesn't mean they are preparing to attack NATO.

Its almost like you have 0 reading comprehension, 0 understanding of how the world operates, or more likely both.

NATO is a defensive-only pact formed because Russians were openly aggressive about expanding their borders.

And I did not write that assessment, did I?

That's funny because we legitimately can't track some of their subs.

They can't track some of ours either. Its the nature of the game with submarines, and the reason Russia invested so heavily in them.

I believe we do in fact have planes that shadow their subs, using a type of magnetic imaging... but I'm not an expert on that kind of thing, and unlike you, I admit it.

The scenario that is feared, that I have read about several places, involves Suwalki Gap... the corridor between Belarus and Kaliningrad through southern Lithuania, on the border with Poland.

Russia parks a huge number of its young conscripts (the ones it won't send to Ukraine so as now to piss off its citizenship) in Belarus, along with tactical nukes, and tells NATO (which Trump has pretty much effectively pulled the US out of as much as he can...) "we're taking a land bridge to Kalinigrad, and we have tactical nukes, as well as ballistic nukes aimed at your capitals in numbers higher than you can use missile defense against, and if you try to stop us we're firing them." Then they drive into Lithuania to Kalingrad... which also isolates the Baltic states from Poland and Europe by land, and the Russian Navy blockades them in the Baltic Sea.

Why people are worried about this scenario? Putin keeps saying "we have the right to have a land bridge to Kaliningrad" and "The Baltic States are Russian and should not be independent," and his propagandists keep saying that also...

Also, Russia moved a large number of its tactical nukes to Belarus.

Russian shadow fleet ships keep “accidentally” severing trans-Baltic cables for power and communication from Scandiavia to the Baltic States...

Russia tried to redraw it maritime borders and encroach into the maritime borders of Estonia...

But I guess there's no reason not to expect Putin to be trustworthy and a rational actor and not try something so stupid, right?

lagniappe article (choose the size of your grain of salt, but you can look up the Russian broadcasts):

Daily Beast: Laughing Kremlin Insiders Say Trump Has Given Putin Greenlight to Expand the War

Solovyov rejoiced about an assertion by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth that the United States intended to disregard NATO’s Article 5 in the event Europe militarily engaged with Russia. Political scientist Sergey Mikheyev said, “In this situation, we should make it clear for the Europeans: now we can really strike Brussels, London or Paris, because we can forget about Article 5. You can forget the notion that Americans would step in on your behalf.” Solovyov chimed in to add, “I like the way you think.”

That only looks like part of the official transcript. You are doing exactly what you accuse the WSJ of doing, cherry picking.

Russia also simply doesn't have a "G8" economy... it ranks 11th... or did before the sanctions and war. They included Russia after the dissolution of the Soviet Empire just to be "nice" and to try to get them to behave like a normal European country... and kicked them out when it was clear they can't.

Let, thd Puyin apologists herd don’t consider Putin a threat, but when he is they blame others for making him do it.

It’s kind of like the old Flip Wilson show. It’s never Geraldine’s fault.

Good. Let him build his own NATO instead of being a professional grifter and living off US taxpayers.

Sounds like a win/win.

We’re living in reality. You’re living in a fantasy of unrealistic expectations. Thank goodness your viewpoints have no real power
