I watched the Chernobyl hbo docuseries again the other day. Watching that in the context of modern disinfo campaigns is sobering.
I’m pretty sure Russia saw how much their (the governments) perception changed afterwards and significantly contributed to the dissolution of the USSR. They want that same lack of faith of enterprise to permeate into the west.
Thats why the play both sides of the bullshite. They want everything to seem like a lie.

Russia has done this for decades. Now is via social media, but previously it was through front groups and MSM. As my father told me decades ago the reason he didn't trust the Birchers is because this is what his Russian contact (their political officer) told him how they would beat us. My dad was decommissioning a USN weather base on the Kamchatka Peninsula at the very end of WWII just as the war was ending. The Russian bragged about it.

INTELLIGENCE UPDATE
UPDATE ON UKRAINE
19 JANUARY 2025
In central Donetsk Oblast, Russian forces have applied increasing pressure on the town of Velyka Novosilka. Through January 2025, Russian forces have advanced north to seize the villages of Neskuchne and Vremivka - the latter situated to the immediate west of the town.
Velyka Novosilka has been on the front line since Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine. Russia failed in attempts to seize the town in summer 2022, and Ukraine pushed Russian forces south in 2023.
Russia's advances on this axis come after it seized other towns to the east - notably Vuhledar in October 2024 and Kurakhove earlier in January 2025.

Russia used chemical weapons 434 times in December, Ukraine's General Staff says
by Abbey Fenbert and The Kyiv Independent news desk January 18, 2025 7:20 PM
Russian forces used chemical weapons on the battlefield 434 times in December 2024, the General Staff of Ukraine's Armed Forces reported on Jan. 18.
Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion, Ukraine's radiation, chemical, and biological intelligence units have been monitoring and recording the use of hazardous chemicals in attacks. The military has recorded 5,389 cases since February 2023.
Russian forces used K-51 and RG-VO munitions, anti-riot weapons that are prohibited for use in warfare, the General Staff said in their report.
Since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, more than 2,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been hospitalized with chemical poisoning, and three have died, Ukrainian Colonel Artem Vlasiuk said on Dec. 13.
Ukraine struck back at Russia's use of illegal chemical weapons on Dec. 17, when the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) assassinated Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, the head of the Russian Armed Forces' radiation, chemical, and biological defense troops.
The previous day, Ukrainain prosecutors charged Kirillov in absentia for the use of banned chemical weapons in Ukraine.

ISW Update Jan 18

Key Takeaways:
Ukrainian forces struck two Russian oil depots in Kaluga and Tula oblasts on the night of January 17 to 18.
Ukrainian forces also struck a Russian air defense system and radars in occupied Ukraine on the night of January 17 to 18.
The Russian Central Grouping of Forces appears to have assembled a strike group comprised of units of the 2nd and 41st combined arms armies (CAAs) south of Pokrovsk, likely as part of ongoing Russian efforts to intensify offensive operations south and southwest of the town.
The Russian military command also reportedly redeployed elements of a second unit of the 51st CAA from the Kurakhove direction to offensive operations east of Pokrovsk amid ongoing efforts to intensify activity in this area.
NATO officials are reportedly preparing for a joint NATO-Georgia exercise scheduled for March 2025.
Russian forces recently advanced in Kursk Oblast and in the Chasiv Yar and Velyka Novosilka directions.
Ukrainian forces recently recaptured lost positions in the Kharkiv direction.

Officials believe Baltic Sea cable damage caused by accidents, not Russian sabotage, WP reports
by The Kyiv Independent news desk January 19, 2025 2:04 PM
Amid a series of incidents that have damaged critical cables in the Baltic Sea, intelligence services in the U.S. and Europe are increasingly convinced that they were caused by accidents, according to a report by the Washington Post on Jan. 19.
The incidents had raised fears that Russian shadow fleet vessels were intentionally sabotaging the energy and communication lines. As a result, NATO dispatched additional patrol ships to the area earlier this month.
The Washington Post report cited senior officials from three countries involved in investigating the cause of the incidents, who said they found no evidence that the ships suspected of dragging anchors across the cables were directed by Moscow or that they damaged the cables intentionally.
The officials instead noted that intercepted communications and classified intelligence pointed to maritime accidents as the likely cause.
The events had heightened tension between Russia and Europe, as Russian activities have been linked to intensifying hybrid warfare attacks across the continent, including cyberattacks, espionage, and election interference.
Earlier this week, the New York Times reported that U.S. officials warned Russian President Vladimir Putin not to carry out plan plans to smuggle incendiary devices onto U.S.-bound cargo planes.
Intelligence sources suspect Russia was behind similar cases last summer when packages mailed by individuals caught fire in warehouses in Germany and the U.K.

Of course...but they expect to and can replace them better than Ukraine. Russia doesn't have an indefinite supply but who do you think can last longer in regards to troops?
It’s going to be close. Russia has already had to resort to using North Koreans.
Even in the slew of videos released, there are fewer and fewer Russian armored vehicles destroyed by drones and more repurposed cars, trucks and motor cycles used in attacks along with a lot of meat waves.
