Of course, Russia doesn't want peace. The Russian public will so how far the Russian economy has been flushed down the toilet. War is never profitable unless it steals the economic resources of another nation.

Is it common sense that attacks on Russian oil refineries are better for morale at the front than actually striking targets at the front?

No it isn't considering what is used to strike them, stationary targets. Due sanctions, Russia cannot get spare parts for refineries modernized and expanded over the last 20 years with Western technology by mostly US engineering and US made mechanical equipment, such as pumps and compressors.

Additionally, the reason for refinery modernization and expansion in Russia was Europe as a target market. That market is gone. For gross sales crude oil far surpassed refined products net sales, refined products was the Mack Daddy for Russia. No different than buying a hunk of iron or an assembled bicycle. The hunk of iron is worth MAYBE $10.

There have been periods of time over the last year when Russian banned export of refined products due shortages at home. That tells me that these refineries are operating far below capacity. A refinery loses money whenever it operates at around 70% capacity.

Russia used to use imported skilled labor for major routine maintenance outages (aka turnarounds) because their labor is so crappy. Slovakia, Slovenia, Poland and even Ukraine were the sources of such labor all far superior to Russia labor.

Yeah I'm sure most of the guys on the front for Ukraine are really privy to Russian refinery modernization and what striking them does vs something they can actually see

This level of spin and delusion is outright sad. Do you listen to yourself? Maybe try to use a 'phone a friend's next time chief

Dumbass this is a fact and they cannot get parts for regular maintenance and no China isn't a source. China also uses Western technology for its refining.

A Beaver plane drone won't do much on the front line. So STFU Putin lover, so obvious that you make excuses for Russia all the time.

ISW Update Dec 30

Key Takeaways:

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov reiterated Russia's demand that Ukraine renounce its right to sovereignty and territorial integrity as a precondition to start peace talks, indicating that Russia is not interested in good faith negotiations.

The Kremlin appears to be prioritizing Russia's force generation requirements and domestic political stability over efforts to mitigate economic pressure and labor shortages going into 2025.

US President Joe Biden announced an additional military aid package for Ukraine worth $2.5 billion on December 30.

Russia and Ukraine conducted one of the largest prisoners of war (POW) exchanges in 2024 on December 30, resulting in the return of 189 Ukrainian POWs - some of whom spent over two years in Russian captivity since early 2022.

Russian border guards withdrew from the Agarak border checkpoint on the Armenia-Iran border on December 30 after controlling the checkpoint for over 30 years.

Ukrainian forces recently regained lost positions near Chasiv Yar, Toretsk, and Pokrovsk. Russian forces recently advanced in Kursk Oblast and near Toretsk, Pokrovsk, Kurakhove, Vuhledar, and Velyka Novosilka.

A Russian milblogger who focuses on Russian veteran issues claimed that Russian forces have significantly strengthened the Russian international border with Ukraine since 2022 and no longer overwhelmingly rely on conscripts and alleged deserters as border security.

dumb arse. this is a fact, parts are amazingly easy to access . Comment based on starting up plants in Saudi, Kuwait and Malaysia. We did access used gas turbine rotors out of the Libyan desert. All you need is cash and transport. the paperwork is easier.

That appears to be Putin's aim, but it has been a very long 2 weeks for his "special operation."

That makes sense to me

With Trump taking office, they’ll be worried about cuts or restrictions on aid.

Thanks Vol.

You guys become more delusional by the day. Its over, the whole world knows its over.

The only reason you could be using what is left of your atacoms to blow up refineries is for publicity. To try and convince the west for a few more bucks to finish paying off you vineyard in Italy. It certainly has nothing to do with saving the lives of your few soldiers left on the front.

Thanks Trevaylin.

He actually thinks embargoes work. He probably doesnt realize when he took that holiday trip, there is a good chance the jet fuel in the plane he was traveling on was produced in India....with Russian oil.

It doesn't matter if it is a fact or not you idiot, the point was that the guys on the front don't know that shite and you're straight up retarded if you think they do

That guy spouted bullshite so constantly and consistently that when he got called out for it he started making up stories about friends he calls to get the 'inside scoop' so that it someone finds a hole in that story he can skirt the blame, and let's not forget the whole "working on a revolutionary technology" bullshite.

He's a grifter and a fraud. He's more of a bot than the guy who posts every single article the Kyiv independent publishes

In some aspects they do. How many piles are driven in the US using microwave sharp pulse? That's how Moscow's financial district was built, using Ukrainian technology on an old marsh.
