Rusdia did not fight WWII to defeat Nazism.
They cut a deal with the Nazis to carve up Poland and the Baltic countries. They only fought the Nazis to defend themselves when their allies turned on them.
The Russian people fought hard and admirably, but they did not fight to rid the world of Nazis.
Their efforts should be celebrated, but what they have done by invading Ukraine is not a war for self preservation, but just like the Nazis did they are fighting a war of conquest.

No one did. Every country who fought them fought because they or an ally was invaded, not to stop the spread of some ideology.

Nazis and Communists were two rival horns of the same goat. Perhaps, we should have just let them fight, but the Roosevelt Administration had too many communists in it to not help the USSR.

The Nazi's did not turn on them, the USSR staged their entire military on the border and were preparing to invade and catch Germany off balance, only Germany found out and struck first, wiping out the Russians.
