Good God Almighty fellow.

That is basically what happened when Gorbachev/Shevardnadze were given "swear-no-fingers-crossed-sugar-on-top" assurance by Bush/Baker that NATO would . . . n e v e r . . . e v e r . . . expand into ex-Warsaw Pact territories.

It could have been avoided in 2014, but Putin saw an opportunity snd took it. A weak POTUS, Ukraine in turmoil, and a plan already drawn up and Putin pounced.

Yeah, that’s the truth.

The Liz/Bill/John.Bolton types are now putting all of their hope into a man that they ridiculed on here and didn't/wouldn't even vote for.

Shameful Johnny Come Lately's.

The OT Ukraine Warriors will utilize all avenues and will never surrender as long as their keyboards exist!!!!!!

That might be the most BS government boot licking crap I’ve ever come across on this site. Exactly how do I hate my country for believing many people inside our government are looking out for themselves, and those same people don’t give a damn about the average citizen. If anyone is Anti-American trash, it’s the people that go lock-step with the government without questioning anything. The US Government should fear the people that put them in Washington, not the other way around.

The Kharkiv Pact extended the Russian lease on Sevastopol naval facilities until 2042. In return, Ukraine received discounts on Russian natural gas. Kharkiv did not permanently cede the naval bases to Russia (hence the term "lease"). Nor was the agreement conducted with any understanding that said Russian lease payments would ever supply NATO.

So the lease expired in 2042 so Putin had to invade in 2014? So just like I said, Putin saw an opportunity to ignore the Budapest agreement and take all of Crimea.

All that talk was regarding Germany. There were no talks about the itinerary curtain countries or Ukraine. There is no such agreement.

And NATO still isn’t close to admitting Ukraine.

The Poli Board taught me that a "swear-no-fingers-crossed-sugar-on-top" assurance = treaty.

ETA: So are Putin's "red lines".

The original reasoning for the 25 year extension (the original lease from the division of the Soviet Black Sea Fleet expired in 2017) was to give Russia build a major port and naval base in Novorosiya. However, Putin decided that it would be cheaper to steal Crimea. This whole war is a result of that decision that Putin made in late 2013 or early 2014. All those deaths that NC_Tigah is upset over are because of Putin. Also this conflict didn’t end in April 2022 because Putin rejected the peace deal.

Don’t forget about the weak Presidential Administration that was in power in America, the same administration that made jokes about Russia not being a threat. Russia was doing its thing, while that administration was in the process of creating ISIS.

How can you get a peace deal that can be enforced with a Putin? He breaks agreements all the time,

I wonder how much trouble Putins Government would be in if American tax payer money disappeared? These people are alive and able to post sarcastic arse videos, where they talk down to Americans because of our money and weapons. Without America this war would have been over long ago. Without America NATO is nothing, and nobody gives a shite about the weak fricks known as the EU. The thought of America is stronger than these European countries that pretend to be strong, while these countries are actively destroying themselves.
