But Ukraine acquitted itself admirably on the ground, militarily.
It kicked the Russians' butts.

The problem was "cargo pants" political inexperience prior to Feb 22, diplomatic/political inexperience in Apr 22, and his complete trust in untrustworthy allies led to an inability to translate Ukrainian bravery on the ground to its best deal available at the negotiating table.
