Russia had only 4 landing ships in the Black Sea pre 2022 out of 17 total
In February 2022, prior to the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, the landing ships Korolev, Minsk, Kaliningrad, Pyotr Morgunov (Project 11711), Georgy Pobedonosets, and Olenegorsky Gornyak from the Baltic and Northern fleets departed their bases and passed through the Dardanelles Strait for claimed exercises in the Black Sea.[8][9][10]

This is why I don’t give a frick about sending our old storage items like Bradleys or M113s or cluster shells. Our military has needed a complete course correction to how we fight a war for the last 10 years minimum. Yes our infrastructure at home needs attention but so does our military. We need expanded production on current weaponry that will always be needed like artillery shells and missiles of all types both short and long range. We need more 5th gen fighters in our fleet to maintain a complete chokehold of the air. Our Navy really needs help modernizing and our Army is starting g to make changes but they need to stay ahead of the Chinese. Drones are clearly going to be a new, major part of if you are able to win a war or not. Bottom line military spending has to go up but up in a mandate to modernize. Good luck with that while Biden is manning the ship. China is all but breaking their economy on military spending but in return it is getting a lot of hardware that would be crucial in a big war. A lot of that strain was put on their economy just trying to catch up to our own military so we don’t have that problem. Our military spending has always been high but our economy can sustain it.

I finally heard back from an acquaintance in Moscow who lives in the area as Crocus City Hall. Not only is it a concert venue but it also contains a mall and convention space. My acquaintance and his wife were there because there was a girl’s dance competition there. They said that they could hear shooting but everyone just assumed it was fireworks. It was not until the smell of smoke hit them that they started evacuating. My friend and his wife grabbed their twin girls and started running for the fire exits but they wouldn’t open. They ended up fleeing out of the main entrance and had to run over bodies to get out. There was still gunfire going on but it was in the main concert area by that time. So as sad as the situation is it could have been a lot worse if the gunmen had split up better to cover more ground because they would have gotten to the dance competition while people were still in there and there would be lots of young girls among the victims.
BTW, my friend also said that most of the Russian people are not buying Putin’s claim that they were escaping to Ukraine. Most Russians have some kind of non government approved vpn on their phone and Putin’s delay in addressing the Russians people meant that the first information that they heard about the attack was from western media which means they read about ISIS claiming responsibility, the USA and the UK warning, and Putin’s dismissal of the warning. Per my friend there is a palpable anger among Muscovites which was just made worse by Putin not not mentioning ISIS when he finally addressed the issue. My friend also said that nothing would come from the anger because unlike Yanakovich in Ukraine, Putin would have no problem sending in tanks and troops firing live ammunition at protesters if they rose up.

In Sevastopol, the Ukrainian Defense Forces successfully hit the large landing ships Yamal and Azov, a communications center and several infrastructure facilities of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, the General Staff reported. "Russia has quite a few large landing ships, because this is probably the sixth ship [hit]. If they are not damaged but destroyed, it is also a very powerful blow to logistics. Because these ships can transport either a battalion (300 soldiers) or armored vehicles. But usually, Russia employs them to transport shells, Shaheds, and ammunition; these ships are mostly used for ammunition. This is a very powerful blow to Russian logistics."
Oh no. This means that the that Russia can’t launch an amphibious attack on Odesa if it decides that it is necessary which according to Lima Whiskey Russia still has not decided that it really wants Odesa or not.

Both ships are still afloat, though one appears to be listing. It appears to have taken significant damage, while damage to the other initially appears to be less severe.

Based on high resolution imagery, I can say that two Ropucha class LSTs were hit last night during the a Ukrainian missile strike on the Sevastopol port.
One of the ships has a large scorch mark on its side, and another can be seen being towed into a dry dock.

UK says Russia forced to constrain its fleet to port, but its ships are still sinking
Sunday, 24 March 2024, 19:22
Grant Shapps, Secretary of State for Defence of the United Kingdom, has issued a comment in response to the latest Ukrainian strikes on Russian Yamal and Azov landing ships in Russian-occupied Sevastopol, Crimea.
Source: Grant Shapps on X (Twitter)
Details: Shapps said that Russian leader Vladimir Putin's illegal occupation of Ukraine "is exacting a massive cost on Russia's Black Sea Fleet which is now functionally inactive".
"Russia has sailed the Black Sea since 1783 but is now forced to constrain it's [sic] fleet to port. And even there Putin's ships are sinking!"

Any day that Ukraine takes a Russian ship out of commission is a good day for Ukraine.

I don't doubt the side of the ship is damaged but the dock took the brunt of it. I can't tell on the one being moved

But it appears to be listing significantly away from the dock.

The obvious fuel/fluid leak is the only clear indication of damage that I see.

Hopefully the Ukrainians wait until the ship is being repaired in the dry dock and then take out the dry dock. The loss of a dry dock is a bigger loss than the loss of a ship.

The head of Poland’s National Security Bureau
@JacekSiewiera
says that NATO must change stance on how it defends the alliance’s airspace.
He says that all Russian missiles must be shot down.
Poland and Romania’s airspace have been violated by drones and missiles.
Excellent. If Poland and Romania start intercepting any missily that enters its air space that will shut down 2 of the biggest gaps in the Ukrainian air defense. Also Russia won't be able to say shite about it since they would be violating Polish and Romanian air space.
