If they’ve killed 7,000 there would be some multiple of that figure in wounded in action. With numbers that high wouldn’t we be seeing more? Pics of Russians helping their friends off the battlefield? Aid? We have a lot of video/photos of other activities, but not this?
If they’re up to 100k troops that’s 7% attrition in a week.
Also, this would indicate they killed around 3,000 today alone based on their previous counts of about 4,000 up to yesterday correct? Unless there was some sort of backlog of counts by the Ukrainians.
Is it just me or does it seem like there were far more embedded journalists in 2014 than now?

That’s kind of my point. These wild swings in figures and significant deltas between differing sources seems quite a bit too much.
On one side you have Russian propaganda. On the other side you have Ukranian propaganda. In the middle you have US and other intelligence. With the accuracy of US intelligence so far throughout this conflict, I tend to put a great deal more faith in their numbers at this point. They said yesterday morning in a release that they put the number of Russian KIA at around 2,000.

I mean hell, some crafty Ukrainian could be running around with a can of white spray paint putting Z’s on every price of blown up armor he sees.

Kyiv 2014? You're comparing?

7000 kia with a few hundred prisoners just doesn't happen unless the Ruskies have suddenly turned in WWII era Japanese.

I've seen a little but not as much as I thought I would have given the size of the conflict. And, I agree. They're all using the same equipment so it hard to tell who's equipment is burning.

Which is why the 2,000 number makes sense.

I'm talking about the whole 2014 conflict and beyond. We've got plenty of sustained footage from the fighting in the east from 2014 and beyond.

All BS aside, I tend to lean on Rob Lee for information like that. Even including intelligence officials, he probably has a better grasp and understanding of what the Russians have in country than anyone who is not a Russian. The man has been tracking and documenting the troop buildup at the border for months now. Prior to that, he's one of the premier experts on military equipment in that part of the world.
He's never stated his opinion on something as fact, and as a general rule doesn't throw out bullshite just to get it out there. He will note when he isn't sure about something and then circle back to it when he has confirmation.

Ukrainians claim 7K dead. Russians admit to 500. Probably 2-3K is the right range.

Any updates on the 40 mile long convoy?

I imagine the friendly fire is out of control on both sides. Hell, if the Russians have really lost 50 airplanes they’ve probably shot down half of them themselves. And the same with the Ukrainians

Since the martial law rumors seem to be going around, I'm going to post what someone sent to me. It could be the equivalent of a forwarded chain email for all I know. So don't put on your soy face and screech about propaganda if it turns out to be untrue.

RUMINT from someone who has been involved in Russian opposition politics since the early 90's:
Try not to share this so we don't contribute to the rumors. Instead, watch out for any reports that come out that corroborate this.
"According to unconfirmed reports, martial law will be introduced in Russia in the coming days (possibly tomorrow). This means the following:
1. Putin's blitzkrieg has failed. This has been recognized within military circles.
2. Losses among the Russian armed forces are extremely serious. This makes it impossible not only to continue the offensive, but also to hold the captured territory.
3. For the population of Russia, first of all, this means a call for the draft of reservists, followed-up by a general mobilization.
4. Increased operational hours and staffing of critical infrastructure and government facilities;
5. Heightened control over public security, critical infrastructure and other important facilities;
6. Restrictions on entry, exit, freedom of movement, increased searches of people, limited ability to change residency;
7. Nationwide Curfew;
8. Military censorship of civilian communications;
9. Limits to sale of weapons, dangerous substances, drugs, drugs and alcohol, and their temporary confiscation from citizens;
10. Ban on strikes;
11. Required work participation in civil defense and military projects (all citizens from 14 to 60-65) for those who are not mobilized into active service."

Yeah but to be fair it seemed like Crimea just happened and this had a known buildup and is a much more expansive iniative

For the infantry, I can't imagine those armbands are that easy to recognize.

This is the beginning of an interesting Twitter thread about the challenges Russia now faces with their air travel:

I haven't had a chance to dig into much of what the guy is saying, but most of it sounds reasonable. Definitely worth the read.

I work in the aviation sector, and I can tell you that for all intents and purposes Russian aviation has - at best - about three weeks before it’s show over.
One aspect is the fact that airspace available to Russian aircraft is very, very limited now. However, there is more:

Which makes a lack of sustained combat footage more odd. Maybe there is a lot that I haven't seen. Just seems like every combat correspondent on the planet would be there right now.
