It’s not nearly about their troop’s ability to stand their ground in the ruble of the city as it is about getting flanked at their supply route. That’s singular for a reason as I believe they were working with 2 main routes of supply as of this week but in the last 2 days one has been cut. That’s the part that is playing with fire and if they were sending reinforcements like was stated then I would have to think they would be used to protect that last route of supply and ingress/egress. They still actually hold a nice chunk of the city it’s just everywhere around it and on the other side of the river that is surrounded.

could be more easily targeted by the enemy? The turret means that the Ukrainians will be able to see them an extra mile away, and it makes it so much easier for an ATGM to hit it.
Those MT-LBs are not heavily armored, by the way (the "LB" part of the MT-LB name means "light-armored"). Fun fact that I just learned: they were all originally made in Ukraine for the Soviet Army, at the Kharkiv Tractor Plant.

I mean, the US Army welded dozer blades to tanks as a field expedient method of cutting through the Normandy hedgerows. But this wasn't done by Joe in a roadside maintenance depot instead of waiting for the logistics to catch up. This was done done in a factory somewhere because there's no other alternative.

A regiment of drafted Russian soldiers who made video plea to Putin to stop them being 'slaughtered' are now mostly dead, report says
Almost an entire regiment of mobilized Russian troops have reportedly died after they recorded a video appeal to President Vladimir Putin saying they were being sent "to be slaughtered" in Ukraine.
The soldiers from Russia's Irkutsk region in Siberia said they were "illegally" placed under the command of Russian-backed separatists in Donetsk and asked for Putin's help dealing with their "lawless and criminal orders," according to Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.
"Please help," the soldiers say in the video while in their uniforms with their faces covered. "There is nowhere else to turn."
Relatives of two of the soldiers told reporters that nearly the entire regiment was destroyed between February 28 to March 1 after they were sent to storm Ukrainian fortifications near occupied Donetsk, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty's Siberian branch reported."

Obviously in the open that’s the risk. I think the idea is that you can hide the main part of the vehicle behind cover and only have the gun visible to the enemy in order to engage.
I can think of no other reason to build a turret that tall. Like every piece of military equipment, or really any machine ever made in history, you have to make trade offs.

A new video from Prigozhin today, from @wartranslated. It's very odd, but all of Prigozhin's videos seem very odd. He's back to whining about a lack of shells and support again.

Prigozhin today is once again seen explaining how invaluable Wagner is for Russia, and how retreating from Bakhmut will lead to the collapse of the whole Russian front.
Also appears to be hinting at the fact that his mercenaries might find it rather unpleasant if they suspect that Russian authorities set them up by not providing ammo and reinforcements.
Besides. Why is he talking about retreating from Bakhmut at all, if just yesterday he was claiming to have “nearly surrounded” it?

We need peace talks.
For peace talks to work, both side need to be close in a settlement.
Ukraine wants Russia out of Ukraine and reparations for damage caused
Russia wants to keep areas they occupy, the remainder of the oblast that they don’t control yet, and zalenaky removed from office. Eventually they want a land bridge to Moldova. With a final goal of all Ukraine being Russia.
Neither side is ready to bend. Only way for peace is one side lose on the battlefield.

As someone mentioned earlier it may be to use in defilade. If the gun has roughly the same height as their tank guns they can utilize tank fighting positions and hides just like a tank.
While I haven't seen any weird modded armor on the Ukraine side they have a lot of crazy technicals they have built. One I saw looked like a dune buggy straight out of Road Warrior.

give Bakhmut 72 more hours at the most. It’s just time now to leave.
I think we're up to week 3 now, of people giving Bakhmut 72 hours. That said, eventually, its likely to be true.
Given the amount of time and resources the Russians have dedicated to that particular endeavor, you'd have to think its at best a Pyrrhic victory when it comes to pass.

If the map from @OSINTdefender posted above is correct and Russian forces have retaken the area in the southern part of Bakhmut around the 504 road, then the remaining Ukrainian troops in the city are almost certainly leaving right now. If that map is correct, then we'll see the videos tomorrow of the Russian flag on the city hall.
Edit: I should add that I haven't seen anything yet that confirms that @OSINTdefender is correct about the 504 road going back under Russian control. We'll see.

The city of Marinka...the only difference between this and a nuke, is at least this place isn't radioactive.

If I’m Ukraine I’m not only setting out mines to take out their equipment when they enter the city but I’d also be setting a shite ton of traps. There would be grenades and claymores rigged everywhere so they have to move slowly in the city and then I’d let the sky rain with artillery. Bleed those fricks for every step they take. They will still just charge forward blowing themselves up because that’s the only tactic the Russian army knows.

How involved are the Wagner Group in Bakhmut?
Posted on 3/4/23 at 5:56 pm to ThisisAggieland
Wagner were carrying the load until late January. At that point the MoD took over, or not, depending on whether you listen to the MoD or Wagner.

Yeah, that makes it sound like Russian retreat is on the table somewhere up the chain. Not the story all over the popular media.

@War_Mapper just put this out, which definitely does not show the 504 road back under Russian control.
If THIS map is correct as of right now, then Ukraine could possibly hold out a while longer in Bakhmut. If the map from @OSINTdefender is correct, then it's already over.
EDIT: I tend to think that this map is correct. As long as Ukraine holds the high ground around the 504 road, they can continue to fight in the city itself.

DO you think the Russians make a push for Ivanivske?
Posted on 3/4/23 at 6:19 pm to GOP_Tiger
Militaryland.net just posted this map.
It also does not show anything like what we saw from the @OSINTdefender map.
Hey, DabosDynasty, if we don't see videos of Prigozhin celebrating tomorrow in the main square of Bakhmut tomorrow, then you'll know not to trust that account.

They were/are the primary force in the area but are combat ineffective alone now from all their losses so Russian army conscripts are having to fill the gaps.
