Agreed, and coupled with the southern border issues gives the US an arguably more solid reason than what Russia used to invade Ukraine if they were that way inclined.

For sure

And that's because this was never truly about any national security fear, it was about Putin, in his twilight years, wanting to secure a legacy. But in having only been surrounding himself with yes-men, had no one to tell him the hard truths about his ground capabilities and the Ukrainian resolve he'd bump into.

Some real talk about the Russian economy. I will note that in less than one week, after partial mobilization announced, Kazakhstan gained over 406,000 Russian immigrants. Many professionals, including specialist MD's and tech engineers.

Soloyov and his baws decided they need to take care of the Polish problem and if they aren't ready yet they can practice on Estonia.

Their mouths are writing a whole lot of checks that will be returned marked NSF or maybe even FAFO.

Are the Russians that moved to K-stan reachable by the Russians to forcefully deport? I thought K-stan was like Belarus, just essentially part of Russia. But I guess it is not...

They hit Putin with the early on in the war, and this was after Putin helped them tamp down their own domestic rioting. If I’m not mistaken Kazakhstan has even stated they want international businesses in Russia to relocate to Kazakhstan where they can be the peaceful substitute.

@Faytuks · 4m BREAKING: Russia's defence ministry says that "in the near future" Ukraine plans to stage an "armed provocation" against Transnistria, Moldova. "Russia's MoD is closely monitoring the situation and is ready to respond to any changes in the situation" LINK

I can't find any previous statements on telegram made by Russia's Ministry of defence on Transnistria. Worrying sign that Russia releases such a statement, not because it's true, but because it's building a narrative

Damn you beat me to it

Now it sort of does feel like a race to take it. Seems like Russia is setting this up for them to take it and blame the Ukrainians being disguised as them. I guess with all the dead Russians in Ukraine they have access to enough Russian uniforms.

Just don't understand the logic now a year into the war and them suffering setbacks? Maybe Putin is wanting them to do something so he can go back to the Russian people and say look we need to declare war and go to total war footing to protect our brothers and sisters? Now I see some logical reasons for Ukraine to do something but not Russia at this stage.

What exactly is Russia able to do? They have a thousand or so troops in Transnistria that I've seen described as 'poor quality'. To reinforce them they'd have to run a Ukrainian missile gauntlet, assuming they have any troops to spare. TBH I don't know why Ukraine hasn't pushed their shite in months ago.

i can see russia trying to do something to take transnistria but i idk about moldova at large. that would probably prompt a response from romania which no one would want to happen

and thats before we even go into the logitistics of everything. they probably are doing everything they can to cause internal strife though

Well on the one hand, it seems an easy win for Putin should he make the move and gives him something to tout. Also secures the large ammo depot. He’s already got some troops stationed there, supposedly the local military forces are a sham. The rest of Moldova doesn’t have much of anything to really stand in his way.

On the other hand, I agree he could be setting it up to use for domestic reasons to tolerate a declaration of war with appropriate concern among Russian populace as the Ukrainian war has then expanded and mainland Russia may be next.
