My theory was that one of the reasons Putin was taking it slow was that he could bait the West into doing something stupid that would allow him to justify a broader campaign.

You’re giving him way too much credit

Is it weird I have more animosity for Belarus than Russia?

It's one thing to be the aggressor state trying to recapture old glory and hold off the growth and influence of an adversary

Being the pissant shithole bitch of that aggressor is arguably worse IMO

Russia is Farkus and Belarus is Grover Dill

As much as I don’t want us involved in this war, watching the Air Force lay waste to the Russian military in a matter of days would be fun to watch.

They have miles long convoys with minnimal air defense

Obviously going into Russia is different but this attacking force would be desert stormed

This is probably true

But assuming enacting unprecedented sanctions at a monetary level won't have unintended and potentially devastating consequences probably gives our western leaders too much credit

Sometimes you have to act against what the textbook says to do.

I don’t know cutting off the banks and causing 1920s style bank runs that affect the everyday citizen of Russia who is going about their regular day. Devaluing their currency etc. it just seems like it’s a pretty big step of aggression

All this is being done by countries who weren’t directly attacked.

Can easily see where he takes this

This has been my concern.

The Swiss bankers didn't even shut down the Nazi's, yet they are going along over Ukraine?

Sweden sending military hardware?

This has very rapidly escalated beyond what I am sure Putin expected and they are putting him into a position that may appear to only have one way out for him.

Moment I heard about their 3 mile long convoy, I was like “why would you do that?”

That’s what I don’t get, Putin had to know exactly what the repercussions would be. He doesn’t seem like the kind of guy who would gamble on something like swift. And if that’s the case then why is it so important to him to take Ukraine knowing exactly what the ramifications would be?

Because Ukraine doesn't have the USAF.

I wonder how many roads there are headed south to Kyiv from Belarus?

Maybe the Ukrainians have mined other avenues of approach to force the Russians into a kill zone?

No disagreement. But to think Putin has any level of control or finesse over proceedings is delusional. He’s miscalculated and struggling to recalibrate

That has to be the funniest thing I have read on tOT all day.

That would be the worst day at the boat ramp waiting for someone trying to back a 150ft+ ship down the ramp. Then he asks his crew if they remembered the bilge plugs and they just fall down laughing at him.

Which means they’re walking into a trap. It’s short work for a few well flown bombers.

NEW: The President will hold a Cabinet meeting in the Cabinet Room on Thursday, per White House

Thursday…. fricking Thursday… Five Days from now… I guess our retard of a President can’t be interrupted from Leave It Beaver reruns for the possibility of WWIII.

This really puts in perspective just how powerful the west, specifically the US, airpower truly is. Russia would so thinks differently you'd think, but judging what we've seen here they'd be crushed
