I can’t imagine a scenario whereby Trump would have openly assisted another country to resist a Russian land grab.

Isn't Trump on record saying something like, "Russia would have never dared invade under my presidency. I told Putin very plainly if you invade we are going in"

Obviously Putin saw Biden as weak. Hell... we all did but the damn geezer has been spot on with his handling of this situation.

You’re better than this or at least I thought you were.

We’re just a message board. What we say doesn’t matter. However, when the president of Ukraine suggests this which dispite the walk-back he did, that’s different. And it’s especially bad when the president follows this up with talk of nuclear Armageddon. Now is the time for de-escalation, not nuclear saber rattling.

They didn't invade. They relied on a fake civil unrest and special forces to "Save ethnic Russias" and "permit self-determination for Crimea", which is their typical playbook for acquiring new land (again, why this all really started with Georgia). Had they done this in eastern Ukraine, without a full scale invasion, it may have led to very different responses.

Russia began attempts at encroaching on Ukraine in 2008 when they started building a dike towards Crimea. A Ukrainian island in the straits called for "bazookas" to stop this so Ukraine put in a small military base there.

Obama was focused on the Far East and didn't seem to want to be bothered in 2014.

You’re dead wrong. It’s been standing SOP in both a Russia and the United States for decades that any evidence of incoming “first strike” would immediately trigger a full launch of the entire nuclear arsenal.

Yeah and Russia doesn't have the capability to actually launch most of its nuclear capacity (hence why they would bear the brunt of an all out launch).

quote:

the only way to lose a nuclear war is to allow your opponent to take out your nukes before you can launch them.

And, as I said, Russia almost assuredly doesn't have the capability of precisely targeting our nukes.

Frankly, I’m surprised you of all people were in the dark about this aspect of the whole “M.A.D” situation.

I'm not. As I said, with how shitty, disorganized, and downright stupid Russian military has looked the past 9 months, why would you ever think they could pre-emptively target US/NATO nukes?

There is no reason to believe Putin is in any danger politically at the moment. A few guys bitching on telegram doesn’t mean anything.

I actually agree with the troll here. I haven't seen anything coming from Russian military or media that even indirectly indicts Lord Supreme Commander-in-Chief.

Trump bombed the crap out of a Russian base after Aleppo.

With permission from Putin. And that's all he did. That's far from intervening.

I think people suggesting Putin is in internal trouble may be pulling the cart infront of the horse a little bit

But seeing people like Kadyov openly critical of the Russian military leadership is an interesting development

Darth, do you have any interest in modeling modern weapon systems? I was thinking it would be interesting to build a series of kits representing the armor in this war.

He also got Putin's permission to bomb Iran when they acted out of pocket

And we gave Russia enough notice to evacuate and Putin gave us implied permission to target that specific one.

Putin/Assad fricked up and this was the cost. It was basically a symbolic act/media show for Trump to counter the picture of that one boy. It had no actual effect on anything.

Trump was non-interventionist. Why would Russia fear Trump intervening in Ukraine?

Remember people begged Obama to provide aid in the form of defensive weapons to Ukraine. On the other hand when Trump took office he gladly helped Ukraine with weapons and training.

Putin saw Trump as a US nationalist. He respected him and did not try him. Trump was warning Europe about Russia. Putin didn’t fool Trump. As soon as Biden got in he got aggressive again. Biden has surprised him.

The @Warmonitor3 Twitter feed has the most up-to-the-minute reporting of what is happening that I've found. Keep in mind that almost none of this is confirmed until after the actions are over so consume it with the fog of war in mind. Throughout the war his stuff has aligned with other follow on reporting.

To me it's somewhat analogous to a scrolling ticker feed along the bottom of the TV.

These are the posts from the last couple of hours

South of Dudchany heaviest battles continue reports of a renewed offensive.

Makiivka???? 'captured by ukraine'
Confirmed by video evidence

Huge frontal attacks taking place south of Bakhmut situation is assessed at difficult.

Russian KA-52 helicopter downed in the northern Donbas frontline.

South of Bakhmut fighting continues around Vesela Dolyna

Heavy battles continue around Zaitseve south of Bakhmut.

OMG

Please don't turn this thread into a Trump vs Biden/Obama circle jerk.

America's leadership was inconsequential to Putin's ambitions.

I believe you are referring to the Tuzla Island incident of 2003.

Tuzla Island history

Some other dates that are relevant to the planning and timing of the invasion.

Kerch straight roadway bridge open for trucks October 2018.

Kerch straight railway bridge open for freight June 2020.

Missile and troop buildup in Crimea and Russian border March 2021.

This is key and I hope we have already told this to China and India. They have got to know that this will happen. Don’t wait till nukes start going off to pick up the phone to discuss.

I have stated as much previously in this and other threads..

IMO.. you get in front of China and tell them very clearly without any room for misinterpretation that if Russia's nuclear forces began to mobilize we are not going to wait around to see how it plays out.

IMO.. you tell China that if that is a problem for them (China) lets discuss what we can do together to avoid that...

Obama was focused on his Iran Nuclear Deal in 2014 and needed the Russians at the table to get it. John Kerry made sure of this.

You’re a fricking idiot Russian troll, or just Russian troll since the vast majority of your country seems to not be the brightest of humans if you think this entire thing started by the idiot trying to hang onto the outside of one of our transport aircraft in the evacuation of Afghanistan. That’s their own stupid fault to think that was in any way whatsoever a good idea. I actually know the co-pilot who was flying that aircraft when that happened and I can promise you it wasn’t pretty for them either but if they hadn’t left the plane would have been overrun as the Marines were doing everything that could to keep contain but it just wasn’t possible. Also it wasn’t a C-130, it was a C-17. You really are a dumb son of a bitch aren’t you? Go give Putin a happy birthday blowjob.
