Smart strategy by Ukraine to force another eventual encirclement.
They have played their hand about as well as it could be played.

refuse to do it with Putin in charge. Interesting signaling.
He signed an executive order that says Ukraine will not negotiate with Russia until Putin is dethroned. The man is wily.

This is gonna be a slaughter of epic proportions for Russia if they aren't allowed to retreat across the river. They are basically trapped.

It's going to be tastier and tastier for even the ultranationalists to blame Putin and make a deal and then of course they would've won the war had they really been able to take the gloves off, but since Putin fricked the Army and was a cuck pussy, we'll have to settle for x.

It will be interesting to see if its a real offensive or just pressure to keep the Russians in place and prevent reinforcement to the east.

Even if they wanted to retreat they really can't anymore.
Most of the bridges over the river were destroyed already by Ukraine and many of those troops haven't been adequately supplied in weeks.
Another Lyman disaster is about to start for Putin.

I really hope they throw a collective middle finger at Putin and surrender en masse. I’m sure the Ukes don’t want to destroy that many lives either.

Russian media is still warped. I just heard the queen bitch state that breast milk is illegal in the US, and if a child says "mom" when calling out to his/her mother, that child will be taken away. She concluded by saying she was serious and that this is not a joke.

The Russians can sure make some ugly looking shite.
It also puts a big target on its back in the field, "shoot all the funny stuff first".
I must say I wouldn't want to be in a trench line where it can dig... out in the frickin' open. Then again I don't wanna be in an AO where you need to dig a trench line, thanks but no thanks.

If I were Ukraine I would make damn good use of those RAAMS artillery shells we are sending. For a country that loves to use armor and tracked artillery as much as Russia does they can really lay a nice trap if they can funnel them into an area where they lay down anti armor mine artillery shells. We have them both in 155 mm and 105 mm but I expect we will be sending the 105 mm variant.

Honestly I think it's real, Ukraine HAS to push hard at this point. Russia has been short of bodies to man their hardware and the recent conscription will change that. We all laughed at Russia at their initial failure to win this. But when they threw their full weight into the fight Ukraine had to pull back. At a very high cost to Russia which has paid the price, possibly to the point of collapse. (Kudos to WeeWee who absolutely has nailed the Ukraine strategy (Severodonetsk in particular was spot on) and what is coming - hopefully the recent relative silence is because it's been so accurate and Ukraine has now decided to go largely silent - because information now helps Russia which is clueless).

That thing will be taken out in short order. One HIMARS missile and it goes bye bye. A trencher of that size is a prime military target as it can dig a defense line in a short amount of time.

Rybars end of day commentary
Note I'm trying something new with this post. It's really hard to figure out where some of this stuff is occurring so I have numbered certain locations mentioned in the update to coincide with numbers on the map. This took a lot of time to do, so I may not do this very frequently.

?????????? The situation in the Nikolaevsko-Krivoy Rog direction
by the end of October 4, 2022
??On the Posad-Pokrovsky (1) section of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, small forces are probing the defense of the RF Armed Forces in the vicinity of Petrovsky and Ternovy Pod. Near Zeleny Guy (2), Ukrainian formations tried to penetrate the defensive lines of the RF Armed Forces, but Russian artillery forced the enemy to retreat.
Over the past day, Ukrainian formations managed to gain a foothold on two passages through the canal in the Petrovsky area. Full control over the site will allow blocking the Posad-Pokrovskoye-Kiselevka highway and developing progress towards Kherson.
??On the Snigirevsky (3) sector, the Armed Forces of Ukraine continue to prepare for the offensive. Additional units arrived in the area of ??responsibility of the 105th battalion of the 63rd separate mechanized brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Artillery crews of the brigade are zeroing in guns at the positions of the RF Armed Forces in Maksimovka and Vasilki. Starlink satellite communications systems are being deployed at forward strongpoints.
?? In the Berislav (4) sector, Ukrainian formations are fixed on the positions left by the RF Armed Forces. After the meeting of the commanders of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Bereznegovat (5), the area of ????responsibility was divided between the units:
?57 brigade: Sukhoi Stavok - Andreevka - Davydov Brod (6)
?46 oambr: Belogorka – Davydov Brod – Malaya Aleksandrovka (7)
?128 brigade and 17 brigade: Novovoskresenskoe - Dudchany (8)
?60 opbr: Guryevka - Ananyevskoye - Trifonovka - Kamenka - Chervonoe (9)
Currently, communication and interaction is organized between the divisions through the Starlink terminals. Logistics services deliver fuel and ammunition.
At night, the Ukrainian command intends to use UAV crews to open the front lines of defense of the Russian Armed Forces, as well as send several DRGs in off-road vehicles, using gaps between Russian strongholds.
??On the morning and afternoon of October 5, Ukrainian formations intend to continue a simultaneous attack on Mylovoe, Borozenskoye, Bezvodnoye, Karlo-Marxovskoye and Bruskinskoye to reach Berislav and Novaya Kakhovka. (10)
In addition, against the backdrop of success in the Berislav sector, the Ukrainian command plans to storm Russian positions in the vicinity of Pravdino and Snigirevka in order to cut the front and create a foothold for an attack on Kherson.

More Rybar commentary on Kherson

???????????? Regrouping of the RF Armed Forces in the Kherson region
Chronicles of battles October 4, 2022
??After the offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the Krivoy Rog sector of the front and the collapse of the right flank of the defense of the RF Armed Forces, the Russian General Staff decided to regroup in the north-east of the Kherson region.
??Ukrainian formations managed to reach the village of Dudchany along the Dnieper: the day before, units of the Russian Armed Forces blew up the bridge across the reservoir and retreated to the southern half of the village. The natural watershed would not become a serious obstacle for the Ukrainian formations: at best, the Russian troops would only be able to slow down the advance of the enemy.
In the event of a delay, the Armed Forces of Ukraine in a short time could have cut off the “ledge” in the Krivoy Rog sector with counter strikes from Belogorka and Dudchanov: Russian troops would have been squeezed into the “cauldron”.
??In this regard, Russian units withdrew from Davydov Brod, Bolshaya and Malaya Aleksandrovka, Olgino, Vysokopole and all settlements to the south in order to organize a new line of defense.
??Defensive formations of the RF Armed Forces are now passing along the line Kostromka - Bruskinskoye - Borozenskoye - Mylovoe.
??In conditions of low density of defending units, the withdrawal of the RF Armed Forces to the reserve line of defense is the only way out of this situation. This helped to save numerous lives and save equipment.
Ukrainian formations will continue to push through the defensive orders of the RF Armed Forces. The nearest goal of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is Berislav and Novaya Kakhovka. A new phase of the battle for Kherson begins.

??The famous fighter Alexander Emelianenko demanded 300 thousand rubles a day for his willingness to go to Donbass ??
During a telephone divorce, the MMA fighter, nicknamed "Death with a scythe", was offered to go to the front to support the special operation.
The answer is simply stunning:
“Will it take four days? Then every day - 300 thousand rubles. The thing is, I work and get more money. I already plan to go with other organizations. But you can make advertising for me. Whatever you earn from above will be yours.”
There is no official comment yet, but the network is already saying that it was not Emelianenko himself, but someone with a similar voice ???????
This is such a fighter for grandmas turned out to be ??????? and for the Motherland you somehow yourself ...

I forgot to ask this when the Lyman retreat was happening, but I read some posters talking about how retreating Russians were getting taken out because the road east was mined. I thought landmines were outlawed by the Geneva Convention.
Were these the Russian's own mines?
Are they Ukraine's and the West is sort of turning a blind eye?
Is this a different type of mine that doesn't pertain to the bans?
