I remember at our debates in university in February I was the only one who suggested why it was not possible to take a country like Ukraine with the modest forces amassed. But everyone said “no, look at Iraq. They had big army and so on but America smashed them”. It was not received well when I showed how we are not America and Ukraine is not Iraq. Even by those who should know better, like older/graduate students and so on. I was apparently the naive one - this blasé attitude reigned at every level and amongst every decision maker and influential person.

I didn’t think Russia would invade for much the same reasoning. I was wrong. That being said, now that it has happened, I don’t see Russia ending the conflict without some concessions from Ukraine. Putin’s ego simply wouldn’t allow for it.

On another note, I was informed that he was going to die any second by posters in this thread. That was months ago. Any updates?

At least to me this move seems as likely to move Germany into being a more aggressive supporter of Ukraine versus diminishing US, UK and Polish support for the Ukraine.

It will either do that, or...they will become posed at the environmental goose-steppers that are in charge of their own government.

Propaganda will have to be in full effect to make cold, hungry people long for war.

Yep, winter will see a push to end the war as Europeans suffer. Its easy to cheerlead in comfort.

Yea maybe. Although my guess is you probably need less propaganda to move people into collective action that are cold and hungry than are fat and happy.

Cutting the gas supply is a bit similar to the EU ending Russian visa travel. The target of both those actions are regular citizens largely without any ability to change the course of events. I’m not sure the history of such actions really supports an outcome of the targeted people yelling Uncle so quickly. People tend to circle the wagons. The Germans are clever problem solvers let’s see if they can engineer a solution to this one.

Europe is steadily reducing its dependence on Russian gas. The process is advancing far slower than many in Ukraine would like, but the pivot away from Russia is likely to prove irreversible and will dramatically reduce the Kremlin's ability to finance further wars of aggression

Link? Or is that hyperbole? Or just exaggeration?

Special Military Operation still going to plan? Can you give us an update on when we should expect the victory parade in Kiev?

It seems like Putin thought he'd be greeted like a conquering hero

I agree on both counts. The determining factor, imho, will be the length and severity of the winter.

A short winter with above average temps - no worries.

A winter of normal length and temps is a greater concern.

A “Bidenesque” winter (long and dark) and all bets are off.

Mother Nature will determine the course of action for the German people imho.

I won’t be digging for one in a thread with over a 1000 pages. However, if you are denying the “reports” that Putin had some rare cancer and was basically one foot in the grave, then you are being disingenuous.

I can’t say.

I can’t say a date, or whom will be celebrating.

My hope is that it will be the Ukrainians.

My fear is that, despite the current circumstances, Russia will be Russia and this thing will drag on for some time more.

Perhaps in a province or two, but if that is what he thought, he was sorely mistaken.

Ukraine has imposed a fairly effective blockade on information around their southern offensive; however, the longer this goes the more information that is coming out.

It appears that Ukraine is seeing some success and their strategy of taking out all the bridges is starting to really pay dividends.

Here's a link from Igor Girkin discussing the problems Russia is having.

A little more info on the bridgehead the Ukrainians opened up across the Inhulets River.

"Russian sources continue to report panic from the Inhulets direction, reporting that Ukrainian forces have reinforced their attack and constructed new pontoon bridges and are now attempting to expand the bridgehead with renewed forces."

Supposedly a report from Wagner about the situation in the south.

GREY ZONE “Wagner Group” channel recaps Ukrainian assault, dismisses amphibious landing claims.

They accuse Russian artillery and aviation of inaction in this direction which leads to Ukrainians continuing their advance.

Basically, GREY ZONE is the new Girkin.

Are you high or just stupid?

LINK

Ukraine has advanced on all aspects of the the front. They have pushed the Russians back more than 20 km in some places (it took the Russians almost 2 months to move 20 kms on its last offensive) and the offensive is not even a week old.
