It’s laughable how much one weapons system has fricked with the minds of the Russian military because they have no way of countering it. Their proof is that somehow they put a HIMARS in a 2nd story building? That’s makes tons of sense. Jesus Christ the Russians are really pathetic. It’s sad.

It's not just one system. The HIMARs are the just the most recent. The javelins and other NATO ATGMs plowed through the cope cages and ERA that Russia was using to counter them and basically negated any advantage the Russians had in armor overnight. The Bayaktar and other drones provided by NATO gave Ukraine the advantage in UAV aspects of war. These forced the Russians revert to WW1 style tactics of mass artillery fire and human wave attacks to overrun the Ukrainians. This forced Ukraine to burn through most of if not all of its supplies of USSR era artillery ammunition. Then the USA provided M777s, other advanced 155 mm artillery pieces, and ultimately the HIMARs are way more accurate and have further range than Russian artillery. These have allowed the Ukrainians to target the ammunition dumps and thanks to Bulgaria and Romania reopening their USSR style ammunition plants the Ukrainians have negated the Russian artillery advantage. The Ukrainian made Neptune cruise missile is a powerful weapon (just ask the Muskva) but Russia did not believe that Ukraine had enough of them to make a difference and that meant that the Russians had to keep their fleet out of Ukrainian waters or risk having another cigarette incident on board. The Russian air force is the only thing holding the Ukrainians back at the moment. However, with the USA supplying the Ukrainians with NASAMs they will soon be able to keep Russian planes from operating over the battlefield. Every system that the USA/NATO has provided Ukraine with has been way better than its Russian counterpart and/or the Russian countermeasures used against it and took away an advantage the Russians had. The rumors that Ukraine has 1,000,000 troops, 1,000+ modernized MBTs, and that the USA is considering giving F16s to Ukraine has Russia shitting bricks that they will soon be outmanned and outgunned in every aspect of the conflict.

Consider your reading audience is not up to speed like you are. Now I'm gonna have to look up NASAM. Something, something surface to air missile I'm assuming??

It’s not 25%:lol. Get real man. You can hate Russia without making up obnoxious bullshite.

Not defending CitizenK on this one. However, the reported #s put it at close to 1% of the population and knowing how Russia downplays #s when it comes to anything that might make Moscow look bad; 5% of the population having HIV would not be unrealistic. 50% or 25% claim is just downright laughable though.

Yeah, drug use and HIV looks like a growing problem over there. HIV, what an awful way to go. I'd imagine they don't have the drugs available to the rank and file that we do here.

The New Awesome Surface to Air Missile system (akaNASAMS) are a Norweign designed SAM system that is now also made by Raytheon. It has a 50 km engagement range which is enough to intercept any missile or plane trying to attack the Kherson offensive or attack Kharkiv or Kyiv. BTW it's the same SAM system that is used to protect Washington DC. Plus it frees up Ukraine's SAM systems to be more aggressive at targeting Russian planes.

According to my former roommate, Ukraine has over 200,000 troops and hundreds of tanks ready to launch a massive offensive separate from the one focussing on Kherson, just as soon as they can protect themselves from the Russian Air Force better.

No. Starting a patient on highly active anti-retroviral therapy (HAART) using 3 antiviral drugs at diagnosis has been the standard of care in most of the developed world since the late 90s. However, in most of Russia (St. Petersburg and Moscow being the exceptions) it is common to wait until the patient's CD4 count starts dropping and their viral load is high to start antiretroviral therapy (ART). Even then patients in Russia are usually started on 1 drug for ART instead of three. That basically guarantees that an HIV patient in Russia will advance to AIDs and likely die in less than 10 years from diagnosis. Then don't even get me started on the lack of options for treating IV drug use over there. When I was in St. Petersburg one doctor told me that the Russian government's way of dealing with drug addicts was to not waste any money on treating them since they are likely to relapse and to hope they died as quick as possible so that way they could not cause crime. Since the Russian government controlled healthcare that was how doctors had to look at it too unless an addicts family could afford to ship in medications from Europe and afford a private hospital.

I intentionally overstated but Russia stopped all transparency due lack of reporting around 15 years ago.

Heroin became a problem among returning soldiers from Afghanistan and has risen ever since.

No one actually believes any of Russia's self reported statistics on anything.

As for life expectancy, men live far shorter lives than women and alcoholism as in say 2 liters of cheap vodka a day is rampant among male blue collar workers. This is part of the reason for their crappy craftmanship.

Everything we have given them has no doubt helped but the HIMARS changed the entire way the war was being fought and had the Russians with no answers. When you can punch in some GPS coordinates and hit a button and can hit something 90 km away with a 3 meter accuracy rate it can frick some shite up.
I do worry they because they are clearly burning through their a missiles but are putting them to the correct use. Russia’s supply lines are a complete wreck right now because of HIMARS. They need to send just a few of the long range ATACMS for the highest value targets that our own intelligence would no doubt make the call on what was fired on.

ISW Update

quote:

Russian forces have likely decided to attack Avdiivka frontally from occupied Donetsk Oblast territory rather than waiting for Ukrainian forces to withdraw from their prepared defensive positions as a result of Russian envelopment operations northeast of the settlement.

quote:

The Russian Defense Ministry is likely trying to assuage distress that Ukraine’s effective use of the US HIMARS is causing Russian military personnel and milbloggers with inaccurate claims of destroying HIMARS launchers.

quote:

A representative of the Ukrainian Main Military Intelligence Directorate (GUR) reported on August 2 that Russia has refused to provide detailed information on which Ukrainian POWs were killed or injured in the July 28 Olenivka prison attack.

quote:

Initial and unconfirmed reports from August 2 suggest that Iran may have sent the first batch of UAVs to Russia for field testing.

quote:

A Russian missile strike reportedly damaged a Ukrainian air defense system in Lviv Oblast on August 2.

Key Takeaways

Unconfirmed social media reports suggest that Iran may have sent the first batch of drones to Russia and sent pilots and maintenance personnel to train on the Russian Su-35, potentially suggesting that Iran may seek to use recent aviation agreements to facilitate the acquisition of Russian combat aircraft.

Russian forces conducted unsuccesful offensive operations northeast and northwest of Kharkiv City.

Russian forces conducted limited ground attacks northwest of Slovyansk and east of Siversk.

Russian forces made marginal gains southeast of Bakhmut and continued offensive operations to the northeast and southeast of Bakhmut.

Russian forces made incremental advances around Avdiivka and are continuing attempts to push southwest of Avdiivka.

Russian forces launched two assaults in northern Kherson Oblast and are continuing to redeploy troops to the Southern Axis.

Russian federal subjects are forming new volunteer battalions in Novosibirsk, Saratov, Ulyanovsk, and Kurgan Oblasts, and are changing time periods for enlistment compensations.

Ukrainian civilians are continuing to resist the Russian occupation with acts of civil disobedience and partisan sabotage as the Kremlin considers longer-term methods of population control in occupied Ukraine.

Russia's desperate for fresh meat to send into #Ukraine - or in this case fresh gristle. To supplement the 155th Marine Brigade, Russia's said to be raising a volunteer "Tiger" battalion. Sadly, none of the ?? have their own teeth and they all need toilet breaks every hour.

Supposedly true via Russian News Source (No idea of it's validity)

quote:

In Primorye, a battalion of volunteers "Tiger" is being formed on the basis of the 155th Marine Brigade to participate in a special operation in Ukraine, DEITA.RU news agency reports based on materials from the regional government.

The governor of the region Oleg Kozhemyako visited the Gornostai military range and took part in the shooting. At the training ground, volunteers practiced shooting skills from the AKS 74M assault rifle both from the right and from the left shoulder. Within a month, they will have to go through two stages of training at the Gornostai and Bamburovo military training grounds. Having passed the exams and received a Marine Corps beret, they will go on a business trip to Ukraine as part of the 155th Marine Brigade.

“We must defend the Motherland. It is not good when children instead of games tell how to hide from the bombing. I decided to volunteer to help our army, the 155th brigade. My friends and acquaintances are also now taking part in a special operation in Ukraine. Preparation and equipment - excellent, fighting mood. Victory will be ours!" - said a volunteer with the call sign "Mad".

Serious question...

Where are all of Russia's <40yo men? Russia should have several million, and this is all they could drag up?

This is truly sad. They are resorting to taking anyone now. If Putin is determined to stay in this war then he’s going to have to declare war instead of calling it an operation. If he doesn’t Ukraine will slowly squeeze them back. From intercepted Russian calls back home to their families they outright tell their families that the Ukrainians are the better army with better soldiers. Russia just has a lot of cannon fodder.
