China is atleast 10 years away from having the amphibious capability for an invasion of Taiwan.
10 years won't even do it. It would take thousands of amphibious vessels launching simultaneously from 12-20 Chinese embarkation points. The entire invasion force would take literally a year or two just to assemble.
The whole thing would be observed in detail by western intelligence.
There's just no way to pull this off.
China has a much greater chance to corrupt the government from within than to invade with a conventional military force

A bit of perspective for all this sword banging:
Unless there's an accident...
quote:
The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is gearing up for its most important political event of the decade. Sometime in the second half of 2022, China’s most senior leaders will assemble at Beijing’s Great Hall of the People for the 20th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party. Maneuvering ahead of the event will dominate political life in China throughout 2022, and the outcomes of the congress will determine the country’s trajectory for years to come.
quote:
Article 6 of the 2006 “Regulations on the Selection of Leading Party and Government Cadres” stipulates that reappointments to positions in the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) can be made only once, precluding a third term [for Xi].
quote:Right now, we're seeing the groundwork for these "institutional adjustments". Xi needs the support of the hardliners and this is how he gets it. But his goal is to save face and make the West look bad. After he gets enough of that to spin for the Party Congess, it's over.
The consensus view is that General Secretary Xi Jinping’s third term is assured. However, for Xi to get his third term, some institutional adjustments and explanations will be needed.
Unless there's an accident...

Xi is repeating what the Argentinian junta did in the 80’s: “hey guys I know our economy sucks due to our own incompetence, but let’s make it all better by invading a nearby island.”

I'm working on a long post on Taiwan's defense capability, so this is really interesting information to include. Thank you for posting it.

Definitely a honeycomb of deep underground defensive positions for decades.

Spill over or just another regional argument in the Balkans. The Balkans have not seen sustained peace the Roman Empire was at its strongest. It has seen some type of conflict every few decades since the slavic migration into the Eastern Roman Empire aka the Byzantine empire in the 6th and 7th centuries.

Has Ukraine started it's march on to Moscow? Also, how can I help contribute to their funds and Zelensky's next photoshoot?

Donating all your blood would be a good start

Interesting, I am surprised he stayed in Ukraine and give him credit for that. Wonder what Russia thinks they win targeting him...

Thanks. Looking forward to it. Don’t need permission, but obviously feel free to use anything I posted for your thoughts.

Few weeks ago there was some arguing over recognizing a past territorial control of either Kosovo or Macedonia for support to EU membership. Can’t remember which at the moment. Messy region.

"To be clear, our request to access the POWs from Olenivka penal facility yesterday has not been granted. Granting ICRC access to POWs is an obligation of parties to conflict under the Geneva Conventions," the report said.
Like I said yesterday, Russia has ignored the Geneva Conventions since this war started. The Geneva Conventions also forbid intentionally striking civilian targets with no military value and on the very first night of the war Russia struck apartment buildings as well as the civilian terminal of Kyiv-Borysphil International Airport. Ironically they just struck the terminals which had no military purpose but they did not strike the runways which might have had military purpose. The Geneva Conventions also forbid intentionally killing civilians, pillaging, rape, and torture. Russia has been documented doing all of those since day 1 of the conflict.

WeeWee, you trust these people? This is important to you?
I'd like to mow my lawn and grow vegetables. Not dither in Ukraine. Whatever treaties you respond with, know that I won't accept them. "They hate us for our freedom" or any other nonsense is going to be ignored.

There are literally zero parallels to draw between the Russia/Ukraine war and a potential invasion of Taiwan by China other than there will be two armed forces shooting at each other in a conflict.
Well you forgot that China will be shooting at Taiwan with weapons and technology and using tactics similar to what the Russians are using, and Taiwan will be shooting at China with weapons and tech and using tactics similar to what Ukraine is using. Other than that you are correct. No comparisons.

Has Ukraine started it's march on to Moscow?
No but it has started its march on Crimea on both sides of the Dnieper River.
quote:
The Russian fascist invaders are largely abandoning Verkhniy Tokmak and Chernihivka in Zaporizhzhya region. On the night of July 29, Ukrainian defenders shelled rashist positions near these settlements.
The rashists are evacuating most surviving troops to Tokmak and Berdyans'k.
BTW, IDK if you realize it or not, but Melitopol is the key to the Land Bridge to Crimea. Another 20 kms and it will be in HIMARs range.

IDK. Why do you hate Jewish people?

You don't accept the Geneva Conventions? Well at least you are honest about being a horrible human being.
