It seems to me that older people had pride in the perceived power of the USSR, though living in squalor compared to the West.
Most Russians still live in squalor. The average income per family in Russia was approximately 6000 USD in 2021. Most Russian families still live in 2 - 3 room apartments that are 60 square meters in size and built during the time of the USSR. So it is not unreasonable to think that those Russians who were teens or young adults during the late 70s and early 80s want Russia to be strong because they lives are no better now than they were in the USSR and at least the USSR was respected.
The youth of most countries favor the opposite of what is in power and love the idea of revolution, but the young cannot do it on their own.
The ones who will decide if revolution occurs in Russia are the Russians who were teens or young adults during the late 80's and 90's. They don't remember a strong USSR/Russia, and do not have nostalgia for it. However, they remember corrupt regimes that could not get keep food on the shelves and they remember the financial meltdown of the late 90s. They know that Putin helped pull Russia out of that crisis, but they also know that the average income for a Russian family was almost 10,000 USD in 2013. Most of those Russians do not want to go back to an economic situation like the late 90s, but they also realize that Putin is making their lives worse year by year. However, Putin is at least the corrupt dictator that they are used to, and most of those Russians do not believe they can change their system and so they are apathetic. Which is why I do not expect a revolt of the masses in Russia because the masses in Russia frankly do not give a shite. You can not trust the polls in Russia because they are staged.
Now if something changes and makes the Russian people give a shite in favor of the war or in favor of revolution then Ukraine or Putin will be f**ked bigly depending on which way the Russian populace decides.

Russian CEO biz friend head of Houston company owned by an Oligarch really doesn't want to go back, mostly because of Putin. I think he likes living in the USA but then again I always was drawn back to Louisiana.

Louisiana is just a hotter and slightly less corrupt version of Russia. No wonder he feels at home.

Key Takeaways
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko is likely continuing to allow Russia access to Belarusian airspace to indicate support to Russian President Vladimir Putin without risking the consequences of direct Belarusian military involvement in Ukraine.
Russian forces conducted limited and unsuccessful ground assaults northwest of Slovyansk and west of Donetsk City.
Russian forces continued air and artillery strikes around Siversk and Bakhmut.
Russian forces conducted localized ground assaults northwest of Kharkiv City.
Russian forces continued to focus on defensive operations along the entire Southern Axis.

Lukashenko has to support who put him in power.

A few days or so ago, they actually released some polling data from Belarus that showed only 5% of the population is in favor of Belarus being directly involved and only about 25% even want to support Russia

Poland is sending all of its 232 PT-91 tanks to Ukraine which is an upgraded T-72 Polish variant with better armor protection. They will receive 50 of of our older Abrams tanks until we can deliver the 250 new Abrams Poland has already ordered. These 232 PT-91 tanks along with the 240 T-72s that Poland has already sent Ukraine gives them 500 tanks from Poland to go with the tanks Ukraine already had in its inventory. Very huge for the Ukrainians as that would go a long way to evening up the odds of the disparity of main battle tanks between Ukraine and Russia. Germany is also preparing to send about 200 Tpz 1 Fuchs armored personnel carriers. Sounds like Ukraine is preparing for a counterattack somewhere. Lithuania is sending one of its Bayraktar UAV and Finland has approved a 20 million euro military aide package also, hopefully in the form of 155 mm ammunition. Australia is sending 20 more Bushmaster armored vehicles and 12 M113 APC’s. Ukrainian officials are currently in Spain inspecting several German Leopard 2 tanks to possibly buy as well.

6 more French CAESAR self propelled howitzers are on their way as well bringing the total to 24 in country. That is 1/3 of France’s entire CAESAR fleet. They will also be sending several APC’s along with the new CAESAR weapons.

They like the Cesar a lot because it's so quick to set up and fire .

Caesar outranges Russian artillery by at least 10 km

The French got it right when they made the CAESAR. As far as self propelled artillery goes it is unparalleled on the battlefield even by anything we have in our inventory. They can sit at least 7 miles out of range of any Russian howitzers, stop to extend the support stand, type in the coordinates of their target and press fire. From the time they stop to to the time they get moving again is less than 10 minutes. Hard to hit something that keeps moving.
