Russia destroys Ukraine’s historic heritage, steals rare collections from museums

Almost 100 days into the Kremlin’s large-scale invasion of Ukraine, hundreds of cultural heritage sites in the country have been destroyed and thousands of rare historical artifacts have been stolen.

How the frick do you define intervention? If NATO countries hadn’t been bolstering Ukrainian defenses for these long months, UKraine would be just another piece of the Russian federation.
Billions of dollars in military aid, training and even volunteer soldiers are keeping Ukraine in the war until they can manage to build an offense that will sweep the Russian invaders into the Black Sea.
I’d call that intervention.

Even if that poll represented the genuine will of the population, it wouldn't justify Russian actions. Russia (both the RF & the USSR) has signed many international agreements over the years agreeing to respect the territorial boundaries of other nations including Ukraine. If Russia was going to claim the Donbas was its territory, it had plenty of opportunity to do so in 1992 when the Soviet Union fell apart. That ship has sailed.
Giving any credence to Russian territorial claims in Ukraine is about as weird as France claiming Southeast Louisiana.

It's worth saying that in that hypothetical where the French are appealing to Louisiana's historical Frenchness as justification for French annexation, Louisianians would be going out of their way to affirm their American & non-French Louisiana identities and minimizing their French heritage.
It also bears mentioning that many countries have had glorious pasts, but if you make appeals to a mythic past and past humiliations in order to justify military conquest of past colonies to try to realize those mythic fantasies, take a hard look at that country for other signs of being fash.
