Russian forces did not advance south of Izyum on May 18. The Ukrainian General Staff reported that Russian forces used drones, rockets, and artillery units to support an unsuccessful offensive on Dovhenke - a settlement approximately 30 kilometers south of Izyum.[9] Russian forces are likely aiming to secure access to the Izyum-Slovyansk highway east of the settlement to resume the offensive on Donbas. A satellite image from May 12 released yesterday showed a sunken Russian pontoon bridge approximately seven kilometers southwest of Izyum, which had been previously used by Russian forces to transport heavy artillery in April.[10] Ukrainian forces could have damaged the pontoon bridge given that they had previously destroyed two bridges in the same location on March 27.[11] Damage to the bridge may be hindering Russian drives on Barvinkove southwest of Izyum, although Russian possession of the major highways in the area might be sufficient to support their current level of operations. Russian forces intensified offensive operations in the area of Lyman, likely to gain foothold west of the Siverskyi Donets river.[12]
Russian forces intensified shelling and conducted unsuccessful offensive operations near Popasna in preparation for the Battle of Severodonetsk.[13] The Ukrainian General Staff reported that Russian forces attempted to advance southwest and north of Popasna, but could not seize access to highways to Bahmut and Lysychansk.[14] Luhansk Oblast Administration Head Serhiy Haidai said that Russian forces are increasing aviation support for ground troops in Luhansk Oblast.[15]
Russian forces continued a line of unsuccessful ground assaults in an effort to advance to Slovyansk and Zaporizhia City.[16] Russian forces and artillery were the most active in the settlements east of Avdiivka, but did not secure any territorial gains.[17] Russian military Telegram channels criticized the functioning of the Russian reconnaissance-strike complex (used to identify and attack targets), on the grounds that its centralized approval system hinders Russian artillery from striking Ukrainian positions in time because of delays in securing approval to fire from higher command echelons.[18]

Please explain how Putin is so much better than Zelensky and Ukraine in this situation. You can’t.
I’m no fan of Zelensky and think he’s being made into a false idol, but no there’s a big difference between Putin and Zelensky: Putin invaded his country. I’m sorry, Zelensky, while bad locking up political dissidents, is nowhere near the evil Putin has done and continues to do. Zelensky is a shyster and con man while Putin is a genocidal serial murdering thug.

So much corruption there it makes me sick...can't believe someone who studied in Russia about their politics could ever be of benefit to understanding Russian disinformation

ISW on the situation North of Kharkiv
quote:
Russian forces continued efforts to prevent a further northward advance of the on-going Ukrainian counteroffensive around Kharkiv City on May 18. The Ukrainian General Staff stated that Ukrainian troops took control of Dementievka, about 10 kilometers south of Russian border, and that Russian forces are fighting in Ternova, 5 kilometers south of the Russian border.[26] Russian forces additionally shelled the northern part of Kharkiv City, indicating that they still have control of the highway to Belgorod in a manner than allows them to inflict artillery damage on the northern suburbs of Kharkiv despite pressure generated by the Ukrainian counteroffensive.[27] Russian troops north of Kharkiv City will likely continue to prioritize holding positions in Ukraine away from the international border at the expense of deploying additional reinforcements to Donbas.

Let’s assume you’re right: you would actually rather it become a corrupt puppet nation of Russia over the US? Do you realize what you are saying?

So the board was dissolved...don't think that equals being fired as you put. You really are making a huge stretch here for there being something bad there

This is a nice timelapse video showing the changes in the front lines from the start of the war.

I wouldn't piss on that bitch if she was on fire, but she was more than qualified to work on Zelensky's campaign.
And frick Biden for even floating the idea of that shite she was nominated for.
That still doesn't change the fact Putin invaded a sovereign nation. '
The difference is I can detach my hatred of Biden from how Ukraine is being handled. Most adults can. Children can't.
I'll let the children in this thread figure out who they are.

Ukraine is finished with Donbas/Odessa going to the Russians. They realized this after the failed Kyiv seize. The goal now is to bleed them out economically instead of a total destruction of their government by force.
Maybe they should just quit in shame and refocus on another front like Russia has now done multiple times in this war.

Russia knows that over the coming years the US general public will grow tired of the endless money being supplied to Ukraine when we have more than enough problems going on at home.
Bruh we’re 80 years into spending endless money on wars - hot, cold, proxy, unjustified, justified and it ain’t mattered yet. Not to mention, and I cannot stress this enough, our govt dgaf what we think anyway.

How can you support the ministry of truth being Zelensky’s campaign manager, Hunter Biden being on the Burisma board, the rampant corruption, and dumping endless amounts of money into this country?
I don’t support any ministry of truth in the USA, I also wouldn’t give two shits if the Biden’s vanished from the face of the earth right now, hell, if they took the top Democratic’s with them the world would probably be a better place but that’s a pipe dream. What is real is Russia, the same Russia that just happened to be on the right side of history concerning the Second World War. I can’t understand why anyone over the age of 30 that was born and raised in this country would side with Russia, politics in our country be damned.

For some people (stidham and crew), siding with Russia, no matter how vile their actions, is easily defensible to stick it to Biden.
Tends to happen when you discard your humanity and go all in for your political team. Progressives are no different. Stidham and crew are just the right wing version of the progressives they rail against.
Horseshoe politics and such.

It was an intentional insult towards her. She played in a Harry Potter band called “The Moaning Myrtles” (which I got to give it to her is a good name for an HP band), and is obsessed with the property. And it’s also an insult towards the White House where apparently the staffers play Harry Potter. What makes it particularly hilarious to me is they’re oblivious to the fact they are clearly the villains of the story completely obsessed with race, propaganda, big government, and despotic teachers.
EDIT: Got to address this in her being an expert.

OK, double major with political science? Granted, I will say that Russian is a hard language to learn, but do you know of how many midwits I know that have a degree in Mandarin and political science or international business? Lots of them, myself included. Those qualifications are a fricking joke. Yeah I was in business meetings with members of the CCP, but just because I spent three years over there does not make me a true expert in those regards even if I know the ropes. Sorry, I know multiple people with Nina Jankowicz‘s qualifications, and they aren’t impressive people.

Has the Iron Dome system made its way into the field yet? I know Israel was sending them some units but I assume it’s going to take a little time to teach Ukrainian personnel how to use it. They have already all but halted Russia from using air power but they really need it to help stop the missiles Russia is using in place of aircraft. I was just curious if it was being used yet. That is a very good system that the Russian military would absolutely hate to deal with.

Where did you see Israel was sending it? AFAIK, Russia was successful in preventing it by threatening to cut Israel off from their access to hitting Hizbollah in Syria, although Lavrov's calling the Jews Nazis may have loosened that up.

Didn't know Israel was sending it to Ukraine.
I got to see it work up close and in person in Israel. We had to hold off our trip to Be'er Sheva when Gaza was lobbing missiles at the city. Great system, but surprised the IDF would be willing to part with it to send to Ukraine. It's highly coveted, effective, and also very expensive.
