Latchkey Kids in 2018

At what age do you think it is OK for a kid to get off the bus and let him/herself into the house and be alone for a couple of hours? Let's say two hours for specificity.
My answer is based on the norms of the 1980's and early 90's, which have no bearing on 2018.
What says the OT?
ETA BONUS Question-
Additionally, there is a sidewalk that leads all the way from the school to the subdivision, only one road to cross. At what age would you let a kid walk to/from school?

this is entirely dependent on the maturity of the kid, but I think 10 should be about the right age

No longer exist. Children cannot be out of site of an adult for one second in today's world.

My parents started leaving my sister and I alone when i was 7 and she was 10. I never did anything wrong, she always fricked shite up and got in trouble. Depends on the kid.

It all depends on where you live and the safety of your neighborhood.

I'd have no problem leaving my 11 year old home alone for a few hours after school. Her school doesn't have busses though so it's not an option.

30 years ago... 7?
Kids these days? 13.
And yet we went to dinner last night with my buddy's family and his younger cousin was there.
She looked like a coked out 25 year old with huge stripper tits. She's 14. Her dad caught hell all evening for that one

I know an 18 year old who doesn't have a drivers license, never had a job, and cant reliably wake up on time in the morning, and I know of several others like him. Kids today seem to be several years behind previous generations in pace of maturity.

Middle class subdivision.
In Georgia.
No specific law exists defining an age in GA, however there is a "guideline" published by GA DHS that says you shouldn't leave them alone under age 8.

I don't know exact age but around 5th grade seems about right

Completely dependent on the kid. We have a 10 year old who isn’t really independent/mature enough to handle it yet. But generally, I think 9-10 year olds should be able to do this.

Age 11 we started letting ours stay home a short while alone.

I don't see a problem with a first-grader getting off the bus, and either playing with his friends in the neighborhood for 2 hours or just coming inside to watch TV until a parent comes home.

For the most part the biggest threat to them is themselves and whoever they'd invite over without permission. Is your kid going to go home and play video games, or eat a tide pod, or dare some other kid to eat a tide pod? It's not about the age, as others have said you're able to be in constant communication with them if you need to be, it's about what kind of stupid things are they likely to do, time wasting stupid, or dangerous stupid.

Mine are 14 and 12 and have been latch key kids for 2 years. They only home for about 15-30 minutes before the wife gets home.

10-12. You'll save money and time on after school care also.

We got in plenty of trouble in two hours...and that was 1976...
I think you are fooling yourself with everything available in the world now. 10-20 minutes is enough for your world to change IMO and I don't have kids
