Gustavo Falcon, the brother of one of Miami's most notorious 1980s drug traffickers, Augusto "Willie" Falcon, was arrested Wednesday night after evading authorities for 26 years.
Authorities were initially led to Gustavo Falcon's whereabouts in March after discovering he had been using a fraudulent Florida driver's license under an alias since 1997, US Marshals Senior Inspector Barry Golden told CNN.
Through the license, law enforcement officials discovered Gustavo, also known as "Tabby," had been living in the Orlando area since 1999, and they traced him to a rental property in suburban Kissimmee. A team comprising local law enforcement and officials from the US Marshals Miami and Orlando offices, along with its Fugitive Task Force, had the property under surveillance for more than a month.
Falcon, along with his brother Willie and his partner Salvador Magluta were indicted in 1991, charged with smuggling approximately 75 tons of cocaine into the United States over a 13-year period between 1978 and 1991, according to the federal indictment.
I'm sorry but this guy is a damn idiot for staying in Florida after his entire crew was wrapped up in 1991. That's pretty arrogant.

I mean he lasted 26 years, that's a solid run. Probably had a bunch of friends and family network to help him, pay them in cash to help hide him. Wouldn't be easy to move and set up a network to only pay cash with no contracts these days.

Mickey Munday one of the originals killed a Baton Rouge woman smuggling marijuana in the Bahamas circa 1981-82.
If anyone remembers the Massey brothers Bubba and John it was their mother who lived in Orlando at the time.
Those people were brutal.

I agree but these guys had a huge network of properties and people set up. All you need is a friend to rent a house in the country for you and no one would every know you were there.
If you don't have friends to help you, it's a lot harder to hide. I'm just saying laying low is often easier than running.

Happy to see our resources being utilized. I guess the heroin smugglers of today will face charges in about 40 years at this rate.

I never was aware of any of this stuff. Just reading up on it. I've been knowing John Massey for a couple years now from construction work and never knew any of that about him! It's crazy!
