going to Blockbuster was such a big deal for us growing up
we had to time correctly because we only "went to town" like every other week
so new releases were very rarely an option because we wouldn't be able to return them in time
most of the time, we rented movies from the gas station down the road, which got "new releases" about 5 years later

Not that I knew of! I was like 12 when they closed. That stuff wasn't on my radar until wayyy later in life.

Back in the day, on the bayou it was 2 locals and one major chain that dominated the video market.
Top 10 in Galliano and Debra’s Movie World which has 4 locations on the Bayou were the locals. The chain was Slick Sams which eventually became Movie Gallery.
My favorite thing about the movie rentals was the three day rentals. Pickup a game or a movie on a Saturday the return the thing on a Monday.
Aw the simple things in life.
They also had VCRs to rent back when a VCR was an actual major purchase.

Man those were good times...its funny how nostalgia has changed people's opinions on Blockbuster though, for a while they were probably among the most hated companies.

Some of the vhs tapes were very expensive also. Iirc, when Top Gun got released, a single tape was over $100.

I was always more of a Hollywood Video guy than a Blockbuster guy.
In high school, every Friday after school, I'd go to Hollywood Video on the way home and get some movies for the weekend. I've always been more of a loner.
