If you asked all the black people in New Orleans who Gen. Lee was, 1/5th would be able to tell you he was a confederate soldier.

Most wouldn't even know where Lee circle is.

Also, there are tons of "slaves' quarters" buildings in the French Quarter. Many of our historic buildings (including the location of the Omni Royal) were used for slave trade. I understand that there's a difference between private and public property, but why spend so many resources removing one historic monument that can remind people of slavery when the city is littered with them?

Did white people stop being trashy after 1884 when the General Lee's monument was constructed?

Up next, burn down all the plantation homes up and down the Mississippi... they are offensive to all the people out there that might have had slaves s ancestors.

Maybe replace it with a statue of Lee Harvey Oswald. Then they wouldn't have to change the name.

Upvote.

He lived near there as well

This is what the Nazi's did.

It happened all throughout the Balkans as well. When you start erasing history, things are bad.

Monuments, statues, graveyards...all a waste of property anyway. Scruffy doesn't give a rat's arse about this. It has no bearing on the survival of our society. What a waste of time

Quitter. It may not affect you personally but trying to censor a part of history just because someone "pretends" to have rustled jimmies is idiotic and short sighted.

Take Lee, Beauregard, and Jeff Davis down. Put them in the Confederate Museum. Call it a day.

This is actually scary shite, suddenly, over one murderer, making serious efforts to scrub U.S. history in a matter of days.

Very Taliban/Isis/Cultural revolution stuff.

I wish people would draw the distinction between government property and public property. Removing a confederate flag from a government building is one thing. Government is suppose to represent equality and justice. We're talking about a 130 year old statue at a round-a-bout.

Negative. We don't do many things that well but living harmoniously with each other is one of the things we actually do well.
