I've always wondered whether Robert E Lee ever even stepped foot in the city of New Orleans (I have the same question for Martin Luther King, for those of you about to accuse me of being a SJW).

I don't get it either. I'm white, Southern, and fairly conservative. Yet I feel no affinity for the Confederacy or any of it's Generals. The war was 150 years ago and they lost. Move on.

After President Dwight D. Eisenhower revealed on national television that one of the four “great Americans” whose pictures hung in his office was none other than Robert E. Lee, a thoroughly perplexed New York dentist reminded him that Lee had devoted “his best efforts to the destruction of the United States government” and confessed that since he could not see “how any American can include Robert E. Lee as a person to be emulated, why the President of the United States of America should do so is certainly beyond me.” Eisenhower replied personally and without hesitation, explaining that Lee was, “in my estimation, one of the supremely gifted men produced by our Nation. . . . selfless almost to a fault . . . noble as a leader and as a man, and unsullied as I read the pages of our history. From deep conviction I simply say this: a nation of men of Lee’s caliber would be unconquerable in spirit and soul. Indeed, to the degree that present-day American youth will strive to emulate his rare qualities . . . we, in our own time of danger in a divided world, will be strengthened and our love of freedom sustained.”

Looks like New Orleans will just have to wipe the slate clean and start completely over since "The Father of New Orleans" was such a horrible white man.

I understand and agree with the outrage over the flag but no one is committing hate crimes in the name Robert E. Lee.

I'm not a rebel flag waiving mouth breather either but I have a problem with removing historical items or trying to censor history because somebody is butt hurt. By the way I agree with removing the rebel flag from the state buildings.

Give Scruffy a call when they start ramping up gun control, criminalize free speech, invading our privacy even more, fricking up the economy even more, fricking up the medical profession, fricking around with the military even more, police abusing at increasing rates, etc., etc., fricking etc.

And as for museums, Scruffy will care then too.
