Yes the pet store and later the Disney store were the major draws.

I feel Mall of La has a little better shot now that all anchors or full and a few of the newer stores but we will see - they should be taking notes.
I think they’ll be alright for awhile. Mignon Faget closed and tried to blame the mall, when in reality it’s because their jewelry is ugly and their clientele can’t walk that far. But it also recently got a Zara, which was made into kind of a big deal locally. To your point, the anchors are all full again thanks to Dicks. Dillards occupies two anchor spaces and is probably the strongest traditional department store left in the U.S. It would’ve been good of Warby Parker to locate in the Mall, but they’re doing Perkins Rowe instead. It does seem like there are some retailers now taking another look at the BR market, so we’ll see.

One of the few times n the history of the internet when both are right.

Some remember an uncovered “mall” anchored on the north by D.H. Holmes and by Maison Blanche on the south nearest to Veterans.
Werlein's for Music had a location there.
In the 60’s they set up a stage facing the pool/fountain in the middle of the place (across from Western Auto to its west) and held Saturday Battles of the Bands.
Yours truly-in the greener days of his youth-won one Saturday with a pickup group of friends and acquaintances and walked the mall like 9th grade gods. I still remember the three songs we played. Live for Today-The Grassroots, We Gotta Get Out of this Place-The Animals, and Because-The Dave Clark Five.
I think Lakeside has gotten In people’s blood generationally. My Poppa, and my Dad used to go here sort of thing.

It’s because the Feil family knows their stuff about being a landlord, and the expectations that come with it.
Ever since I was a kid in the early 90’s, the mall has constantly renovated, upgraded, and expanded.
Those other malls who met their death operated on a maximize profits/minimize expenses mindset. That eventually bit them in the rear end.
People don’t have to spend money on mall stores, however nowadays if they do, they want an experience. They want amenities. They want to feel like a champ. Outdated malls with musty smells, no water features, no luxury touches, etc etc is depressing. Why would you be motivated to spend money somewhere that is depressing?
I make a special trip at Christmas just to let the kids ride the train. It gets peoples feet on the property.
That latest addition to build a standalone building for Lee Michael’s was huge.
My kids love going to Lakeside.

Esplanade was the clear best mall around. Then the neighborhood went to shite.
Hammond square was a nice older mall, as far as layout and attractiveness.

Thought all the stores were closing. I bet Amazon will end up taking over most malls.

If they’d put a good sports bar in there right in the middle of the guys to hang out, they’d make a trillion dollars a year. Maybe more.
They did. Didn’t the guy that killed his gf, cooked her, then jumped off the Montleon not long after Katrina work there?

Esplanade stores went to sh*t. Once it brought in low end stores, it was over. Lakeside didn’t. I used to prefer Esplanade and thought it was better than Lakeside in its day.

Lakeside still feels like a mall, especially around the holidays
Wife and I went this past Christmas season. First time I had been there in 25 years and very first time for wife. It really was nicely decorated.

Malls are generally still good where the population density can support them.
Dallas and Houston each have multiple successful malls.
North Park mall in Dallas is one of the nicest and busiest malls in the country

That's it, but it wasn't in the middle of the Mall. It was at one of the entrances.

Was sad to see it recently lose the Subway and Smashburger options in the food court. Couldn't compete with Cane's and Chik-Fil-A I guess.

It was in the middle of the mall if you’re looking at it from Causeway Blvd, with Macys on one end and Dillards on the other.. of course it wasn’t in the middle of the concourse cause that would be weird .

So it wasn't in the middle of the mall.
Be more precise with your words.
