Keep pushing forward folks. The reason we didn't get attention after Rita was because we didn't wait for help to come, we took care of things we could ourselves. I see the same approach from the people in the area again this time. Neighbors helping neighbors, family helping family, friends helping friends.

SWLA isn't the squeaky wheel the media needs to make this a story. Its unfortunate because there are plenty of feel good stories available here right now.

Headed that way tomorrow. Have enough to cook 1250 plates for 3 days and other supplies donated by businesses and locals in St. Amant.

Probably won't be my last trip.

It was like a 30 mike wide EF3 tornado. It’s indescribable. And it’s so unbearably hot.

And the mosquitoes are terrible

City mosquitoes don’t usually bother me I’m guessing because I’m usually drinking at mosquito time but I been drinking and these ones ain’t scared

Also it’s soooo dark I’m guessing because the city still doesn’t have power. The only time you can see anything is when lightning flashes

Thank you everyone for helping and being our brother/sisters keeper. There has been so many people reaching out to see how they can help and its amazing what we can do. More people are being fed, more locations are opening up to do so, so many are in this together. Thank you admins for sticky-ing this.

Donated to both links. Thanks for sharing, it’s always difficult finding the best way to help in these situations

Yes, about 50% of the house is down to studs. Stand at the back of my house and you can see the front window.

Just drove past there. Seemed like 1 in 6 pine trees were snapped in half. All the homes and businesses near I-10 had significant damage.

More than that, I gaurantee you. It's bad. This place is going to look alot more like the prairie it once was when it's all cleaned up. Wouldn't be surprised if half of the trees are gone when it's all said and done. The trees in my parents' neighborhood are damn near all gone.

I've never seen such destruction before. It literally looks like a bomb went off.

How do we help?

If you are able to physically help if you don't know anyone just load up with some water, sandwiches, gloves and maybe a rake and/or chainsaw and drive in and drive around and when you see someone working in their yard get out and introduce yourself and offer to help clean up. When you are working by yourself I promise there is no better feeling than the generosity of a stranger. If you need some ideas let me know and I can reach out, I know a group that was helping clean the Catholic churches in Cameron parish today. There is a lot to be done. I want to thank everyone that has donated physically or monetarily or simply said a prayer. Other than a few years I have called Sulphur home for over 40 years and this storm really did damage, more than ever imagined. Like I told someone the other day we are beat up with some pretty good bruises but we'll be back with some time and a lot of hard work. If I can help any fellow members with anything in the area or out of towners with suggestions just reach out. The sun is still rising every morning and so will the community of SW La, oh and some Tiger football will help too!

Been down there working on houses (water mitigation) and it looks like a war zone. South LA residents are the most resilient people on earth. They could be mad, break down, and just say the hell with it. But they are there, hand in hand helping each other with the best attitudes you can have. Every homeowner we work with just wants to shoot the shite and drink beer with you and have laughs. It’s why I truly love LA. The only down side is finding capable people to work.
